Good call. Anything that sticks out can be a pain in the ass (possibly literally) very quickly.

Get a friction catch on there though or it will be open all the time.

Ah... Well alright then.

I have had the pond freeze almost solid and not lost a fish. When the water temperatures get bellow freezing they sort of hibernate and just move enough so that their blood doesn't freeze. They need very little oxygen during that period. It is sort of amazing when you think about it.

Yeah, I've heard about that. I just thought the other thing might have been it, but I wasn't aware of the koi's lower need for oxygen.

Also crazy to think if you dropped a human in what, like 50 degree water? It would kill them relatively quick.

Last an hour or two in 50 degree water. About 5 minutes in sub freezing.

Yes, all vehicles are here. Haven't had anyone mention smog checks, nor have I seen any smog check stations in Canyon County. I know they have them in Ada County where Boise is. Changing plates has been super easy. I think my longest DMV wait has been about 15 minutes.

I'm bummed about the trees. I'm going to lose a couple plum, a couple Ash, and a cool weeping cedar because they are either dying from lack of water, over crowded, or leaning on the deck.

Huh, an hour or two is still more optimistic than I was thinking.

Google tells me:

"Motor vehicle owners moving to Ada and Canyon counties, or the City of kuna with gasoline vehicles made after the 1981 model year and at least 5 years old must get a smog check. ... The Idaho DMV suggests vehicle owners not get their vehicle tested until they receive their testing notice."

Can your trees be saved if watered and/or thinned out? Of course the part of the one that is leaning on the deck needs to be whacked off.

So, when do you get your new HVAC?

Have they hit you with the IPT tax (Idaho Potato Tax) yet?

Not really crazy - just the difference between warm blooded and cold blooded animals.

Was for me for both houses we bought and they were in the middle of the city. Pretty sure we found a whole lost civilization in the last one.

I learned this in an interesting way. In college my roommate and I went away for Christmas break. I was only going to be gone 3 days so I told him I'd take care of feeding his fish tank when I got back. Turns out the heater went out and the dorm room got to below freezing for two days. His fish tank had an inch of ice on the top and his fish all looked dead. I took the inch of ice off, and threw in some (sink temperature) hot water. The fish all just perked up like nothing had happened.

Yeah. I think we have about 50 trees that I'd like to remove. Behind the house. Then there's the front and sides.
