That’s a bridge we shall cross when we get there. If we have to rent for a while, it’s all good. Worst case, we’ll live at my fiancées parents place. Only an hour and a half commute, easy peasy.

I have found over the years that folks (especially kids) that are up to mischief or just hanging out, don't like other people around.

When I lived back in Missouri, I bought this relatively new house in a development that the lot sizes were a minimum of 3 acres. My house was near the end of a dead end street/road and was the only house built at the time.

The kids would use the circle at the end of the road to hang out at night. I didn't much like that so, I would light up a cigarette and walk down and "chat" with them. Chat like, nice night huh? You know why they call this wolf creek trail? Yep, they used to hunt quail up here. I see some deer from time to time. I'd light up another cigarette.

Guess what, they would leave. After several weeks, word got out and none of them came around anymore -

I'm thinking that would NOT be one of your better alternatives -

Welp, colleges are still here - there isn't any upper age limit. In fact, you can get many degrees on line. Yep, one course at a time, eventually it will yield that piece of paper -

Depends upon the industry and cert, really. In IT there was a wave of "paper MCSEs" in the early 2000s due to cert boot camps that only taught people how to cram for a test, and then promptly forget everything they learned to make room for the next one. There were a few decent techs produced from those joints, but not many. Most I've spoken with over the years wouldn't know where to begin if something wasn't working correctly.

Alternatively when you get to the lab based certs, like just about anything from OffSec, they really can't be BSed through. You get 5 machines with purposely misleading vulnerabilities and 24 hours to gain remote access and elevate privileges. When done you have another 24 hours to type up a formal pen test report in the proper format. Any automated tools (exam is proctored) and the lab boots you out with a failure.

The good news is that the courses I have are not the ones you do online and pay $500 for. You actually need to prove you can perform the work in order to get them, and one of them is under the AIT in Alberta.
Good luck!

I'm in Florida for work. The work is mostly outside where there is no natural shade. Most of the time I was waiting for people to fix things. One of those people drives a BRZ. I was waiting a loooooong time for that one, but that's to be expected . If you want something entertaining, imagine 4-5 dudes huddling under a small standing umbrella to get a piece of the only shade available.

It's a goal. Even though I no longer need it.

Da funk? 1.5 hour commute? I get pissy when there's ANY traffic.

i've been working 1.5-2 hours away lately. it might be better in the brz where i don't mind driving, but being stuck in the work van for that long is driving me nuts. no time to do anything, even less time to wind down for the day. and to do it multiple days in a row, going even more nuts.

I used to work with people at a petrochemical plant who did that. Obviously need to work and make money and all that, but just means waking up stupid early and then drive 1.5 to 2 hours home after working 12 and then doing it for months at a time. No down time, no free time, and no time for family or friends. I’d go insane, but hey everyone’s situation is different.

Makes me feel lucky that work for me is literally like 15 minutes away (but I make it there in under 10 )

i keep one of these specifically for work. the boss hates seeing me drag it onto job sites. it's a lifesaver. and cheap enough to replace should anything damage it.
