The price is already well above what they were aiming for originally and it just keeps getting higher with all the features (some required) that keep getting added in to the package.

For people buying this is as a street driven DD (probably about 95% of the sales) why would it need more HP and to be "fast"?

By that logic why would you need RWD and two doors?

Not the point of the question. It has RWD and 2 doors but why does it need more power?

100% agree. Car does not need anything more from the factory. It is great as is but very easy modify if you want. Whenever people bring up the more power from the factory they always forget that the additional R&D as well as parts for a turbo or sc will just drive the price up even higher. Then we get into the whole "I can't believe they are charging 35-40k for a 2 door rwd coupe, why does no one make a barebones fun to drive rwd car." The grass is always greener.

I don't know anyone who bought this car based on HP numbers. I would wager that most people bought this car because they liked how it looks and handles.

Yep. I have nothing against guys that want to give it more power (although not sure why if a streetcar) but the whole "needed it from the factory" thing is ridiculous. Couldn't use much more on the street as it is without a much higher risk and I am not sure where some people drive but around here catching up to traffic or stopping at the next light in 2.8 seconds instead of 2.4 is just fine.

Bragging rights. Gotta get them panties wet. Plus that sweet, sweet turbo spool sound.

Perfectly valid reasons to want that but if it came from the factory with more then it would be the same as the rest so no bragging rights so it would not be enough and it should have had more and they should have made it that way but if they did then it still wouldn't be more and......

The car isn't slow, it is exactly what it was intended to be.

I passed a Porsche GT3 on the highway yesterday. So did the Dodge Caravan in front of me.

Who cares?

The recent articles I've read regarding the next GT86 say it will be based on the Miata platform and have a turbo charged 4 cylinder making roughly 188 hp. To be sold in model year 2020.

Certainly a re-post, but whatever.
