the 6MT in the 04/05 Matrix / Corolla XRS (while said to be weak) did the 60 mph sprint in 1 shift. I know the gearing is different in the 03 models but I'm not sure how different.

This isn't to say this transmission will be used, but I'm saying a 6MT can do 60mph in the top of second gear.

My rx8 does 110kmph in 2nd gear (9500rpm)
U have to remember that tC isn't a Performance car exactly.. So you can't base your opinions on it

Anything below 8 seconds will be quick enough for me. I'm hoping it's slower than 6 seconds, or we may be looking at nasty insurance rates.

Keep in mind, this is supposed to be an affordable sports coupe.

Not for me, if I'm currently driving a heavy FWD automatic that does 0-60 in 7s and if a real RWD 6 speed sportscar with identical power output cant compete with that theres definitely a problem.

BTW the X1 isnt really astonishing.. its like saying the batmobile can lap nurburgring in 3 minutes.. yea, and my octoturbo'ed semi can pull 60gs on the skid pad.

Would Toyota go as far as to think about insurance rates when trying to make this an affordable sports coupe? Seems like that wouldn't be a very influential factor for a company to consider when building a new car (considering they have so many other standards to meet).

Edit: I voted for the fastest 0-60 time, but I was being silly. I guess I was being a little too optimistic on the weight/power ratio (crosses fingers for a sub-2700lbs curb weight).

On the contrary. Which is why they'll make it a 2+2 rather than a 2 seater, among other things.

More like 7+ unless you mean the turbo version.

Insurance is a big factor on keeping sales going me thinks. What are insurance rates like on Subaru performance models vs the standard ones?

For me, about 250 on performance model(STi) and about 100 on regular Impreza. I'm under 25.

Per month most likely. At 18-19 when I checked insurance for just me it was $300 a month. Last year I was (internet) quoted $80 something, I just laughed, no bloody way. I was paying $110 on parents insurance and I thought that was a steal compared to solo.

I can't imagine insurance with vehicle liability on something with any value either .
