It's all dependent of the grade of the hill. But with that said, DFCO is better than coasting in neutral in most cases.

Imagine if you were travelling down a slight hill, steep enough to maintain whatever target speed. If you were engine braking, the car would slow down, and you'd have to keep on applying gas over and over to recover speed. If you coast down the hill, you only burn what fuel it takes to idle, which if you're going fast enough could be less than the engine brake -> apply gas -> brake -> apply gas cycle.
Not going to go through the whole "coasting is good" debate again because I am obviously wasting my time but the practice does not save any gas and is dangerous on top of that. If you want to turn your car into a giant Hot Wheels then that is your business.

the better question is, who the hell cruises at 60-65 on the highway? 'Round these parts, if you're under 80 you're a danger to others.

edit: highway speed limits hit 75 between cities (and that one toll road is 85) so...yeah. i guess TX is just special.

Good call! If I did that I would have a truck roll right over me. They probably wouldn't even know it.

I know it's wrong but I'd be lying if I didn't admit to the occasional clutch-in (or out?) coast up to a traffic light.

That being said, as a practice, whole lotta nope there.

Clutch in coast to a light is one thing. Freewheeling down a hill in neutral is a whole different ball game.

We have a nice 18% 3m wide curvy asphalt street in the woods nearby, just perfect for this.
