First Speeding Ticket?

Obviously every court will be different, every judge is different and laws differ.. HOWEVER

Around here, anyone i've ever known who got their first speeding ticket got it pleaded down to a parking on pavement or something of the sort, no point, county still gets money and everyone is happy.

If the cop doesn't show here in new york its an automatic dismissal.

What was the method in which he nabbed you? Radar? Laser? Pacing?

If it was Laser there no fighting it, if it was a Radar unless you audit for the radars service history and it has not be serviced/tuned there is no fighting it.. If it was pacing, you can usually fight that and get pleaded down easily..

Best bet is to plead not Guilty, Judge if hes not a **** on the spot will offer a plea down to something without points and a fine..

When I was going to school in Atlanta, I received a ticket for 79 in a 55 (damn HOV lane and motorcycle cops), but I was nice to the cop and he told be to look into a program for people 21 & under (I was 20 at the time). I went to court a few months later for arraignment, and the judge sentenced me to the program (after I asked about it). I took about 5 classes (they weren't free either) and had to do 24 hours of community service, but I didn't have to pay the ticket. It also didn't go on my record either. If you get a ticket in Atlanta and you're 21 or under, look up the Teens Learning Control program. It definitely saved me from losing my license, but the costs were about the same. Atlanta also has a program where if you're over 21, you can pay a certain amount and the ticket will disappear, but that can only be done every so often.

From what I understand, reckless is 30 over. So I believe it is just a speeding. Not gonna take a chance on court though, just gonna call a lawyer.

Wow,

All of this lawyer talk over 1 speeding ticket. Just pay your fine, learn your lesson, and be aware next time. If you were going to lose your license to drive .... then of course ...lawyer up.

You also saved on insurance. if you are under 21 and get ticket insurance rates skyrocket, even if first offense, not that they aren't high enough as it is.

Yeah, that too. Luckily I was fortunate enough to have my parents pay for my insurance through college, so if it hit, my mom was going to make me pay it haha. But I was driving a 4-door cobalt then, now that I am out and bought the BRZ, I am paying the car payment and insurance payment. Insurance is about $420 every six months for me now.

And so much bad legal advice. I'm surprised no one has tried to pull the sovereign citizen card yet.

Last time I got a ticket, I blatantly lied and won. Cop ticketed me for "parking within 15 feet" of a crosswalk on a normal suburbia street. I was about 8 feet from the crosswalk. I moved my car around 15" from the crosswalk and photographed it with the ticket on the windshield. Printed the pic and went to court. Showed the pic saying it's right around 15' and the cop used poor judgement. They agreed and threw the $60 fine out.

lol thats badass.

Back in college I never had any change to pay the meter. So I would just put old parking tickets on my windshield and the meter-maids would walk by thinking that i had already gotten a ticket.

only lasted for a few months before they caught on though.

Long term, more money on insurance, that's why I suggested a lawyer. Could have saved myself around 2200 dollars over 3 years if I got a lawyer when I got tickets.

in TN all you need to do is follow the instructions on the ticket to do the online traffic safety course. Easy as that, and you can do it once every 6 months I believe if you get caught speeding again.

I didn't know what your local rules were. I know my state is very unfriendly when it comes to speeding

When a driver exceeds 85 mph anywhere
When a driver exceeds 35 mph while near a school crossing
When a driver exceeds a posted speed limit by 20 mph in a business or residential area
When a driver exceeds 45 mph when no speed is posted in a business or residential area
