This was in the 70s when there was still a true risk with the Soviets invading so you could have objected all you wanted while you learned to like Communist rule!

yeah yeah, "better a Pershing in the backyard than a SS20 into zee house" and other old people stuff.

Back to topic, I'd rather a Pershing for clearing up the daily commute. Autobahn is ghastly to drive with an average speed around 60km/h during the wee hours in the morning and afternoon.

Living in Germany for a couple years, I concur with this statement.

Your parents were pretty glad we were there .

I had looked so forward to driving the autobahn when I was there. One of the guys had his 75 Trans Am shipped over and we took her out for a spin. Don't think we managed to hit 80 km/h due to the congested traffic. We were very disappointed to say the least.

An European driver's license is usually extremely expensive, so their confidence in driving is a lot higher than what the American system teaches. Also, you're right. If you blocked the 'pass lane', they didn't care to tailgate until you got out of the way. If it caused a wreck, it would have been your fault for blocking the pass lane.

In the Trans Am we made about 3 attempts and gave up.
In army convoys probably about 200-300 hours.

The car I had only managed 100mph, but one of my friends pushed 150mph on a stretch near Saarbruken. Definitely an exhilarating experience.

I think the point was that people suck at driving no matter where they are or what great infrastructure they are given.
Sooooo...100% on topic (for a change)!

Don't even get me started on the 401 right after Milton.

Couple weeks ago, there was a tractor trailer tipped over on the on ramp heading westbound. I was going Eastbound and I went about 30km/h from just past the offramp for hwy 6 all the way up to past Milton just so that everyone could slow down, most stopped to take a picture. This is why I refuse to work in the office in Markham, and instead work from home.

The 401 in general can just suck!
I love my twice a week jaunts into the Chatham to Windsor corridor with the "it only snows a little here so summer tires are fine" crowd. I have watched more cars kiss the divider or scurry off into the ditch in the last 3 years then I saw in total after 35 years of driving elsewhere.
