Maybe not in the S2000. But especially in the first generation of the RX-8. Just check the RX8club. They supposedly reworked the tranny for the 2009 model year RX-8 and even installed different gearing. The tranny guy from a Mazda racing team piped in with the problems on a thread, things like second gear failure, bad shift forks, etc. I'm not a tranny guy by any means but I know the early versions of the AZ6 especially for Mazda's engines had numerous failures and weak points.

One would think that they'd have that sorted by now no? Or should they go back and use a circa 2001 spec tranny?

The same guy who gave me the pics of the tranny replayed back after 4 months, my last question was "what kind of AT will the FT86 have? will dual clutch an option?

replay: dual clutch NO but engineers not sure if next gen or higher specs will have it. AT will be 6 speed w/ paddle a little longer final gear than the manual, thats all i can say testing was finish last Nov thats all.

There were spy shots of the mule having paddle-shifters. This is from Oct so I'm not sure if it's been posted before, search turned up nothing so here.

To the best of my knowledge, Subaru has no dual-clutch. CVT and the usual medieval times automatic and that's it.

I've heard rumors that Subaru is exploring/developing one though. Prob not in time for the 86's debut though.

damn i hate that shift tronic or sport shift, too slow some even down shift for you when you dont need to like the one in my mother inlaws old jetta even a honda fit sport have it. but yeah hate them, my brothers is250 is a little better but still slow downshifting, but dual clutch so far the best i tried was a golf R32 DSG, I also want to try the GTRs dual clutch some say its the best they tried.

My uncle test drove the GT-R and he really like how dual clutch felt on that car (and he's no newb to Skyline, He own several Skylines).

I remember hearing a rumor bout next Legacy might have DCT... but it's all rumor without a proof.

Dual clutch transmissions are becoming much more abundant. Hyundai even has one in their new Veloster. They're quick and efficient in both fuel economy and power transfer.

It's just a matter of time (very little time, if I had to guess) for Subaru/Toyota to get one and in turn the 86.

DCTs aren't the be all end all of transmissions. It's what's in now. And until they can reduce the weight and expense, I think the FT can do without it. Not that it'd matter to me anyway.
