300v doesn't have any additive/detergent packages, so it will appear different.

Because it's ester based. Esters smell like fruit. Esters are any acid that has a hydroxyl ( -OH) group replaced by a alkoxy ( -O alkyl) group

Sheeeit I remember ochem.

And I thought they did that on purpose 'fo dat Motul scent. Come to think of it... isn't german castrol ester based? The Castrol synthetic doesn't smell like fruit.

Oh no you didn't! 300V has plenty of detergents/dispersants as evidenced by the 2,000 ppm's of calcium and 11 ppm's of magnesium as shown in your used oil analysis. Esters can provide detergency as well and so does the boron (36 ppm's in your uoa).

The original GC that was sold in N. America (early-mid 2000's) was green and smelled like gummy bears.

I don't recall if it was PAO or ester based. It may have had an ester additive, but I don't remember what "Z-oil" was. Whatever it was, it was very unique but Castrol changed the formula shortly after a bunch of bitog'ers paid lots of money to find out more about it.

This is one of the early threads, but not THE thread where they layed out a bunch of info from the study that Dyson did. Most of the info wasn't disclosed as Dyson had them sign an NDA.

http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums...6Number=709888

I recall several modded WRX and STI uoa's with long-ish oil change intervals that had a few track days. I had a few good uoa's on it in my FXT as well. It's presumed that the current gold GC is PAO and/or ester, but no one knows for sure. It is made in Germany or Belgium, but the oil that we get in N. America is made specifically for N. America. Back to esters, the article above that I linked was written by someone that used to work at one of the ester suppliers to the major oil companies.
