Pagani Launches Lighter Huayra BC With 789hp And Carbon Everything

Quote:
Ladies and gentlemen, feast your eyes on the brand new Pagani Huayra BC, undoubtedly one of the craziest road cars ever produced.

Despite what some rumors suggested, the Huayra BC isn't actually 100 hp more powerful than the 'standard' car, but still manages to pump out around 60 hp more, making for a total of 789 hp and 811 lb-ft of torque. All of that power comes courtesy of a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 engine which is coupled to a brand new seven-speed automated manual transmission sourced from Xtrac.

This new gearbox includes revised electro-hydraulic actuation as well as carbon fiber synchronisers. All told, the transmission upgrades slash shift times in half from 150 milliseconds to 75 milliseconds all while weighing about 40 per cent less than an equivalent double-clutch unit. As one would expect, the gearbox sends all power to the rear wheels.

Typically, the Pagani Huayra weighs a mere 1,350 kg (2,976 lbs), an incredible feat given its size and the massive V12 engine. Nevertheless, the Italian automaker has managed to shed 132 kg (291 lbs) thanks to the attention to detail that's made the firm famous.

Some of the key weight saving elements include a new titanium exhaust system which weighs a mere 2.9 kg (6.3 lbs) and is 7.1 kg (15.6 lbs) lighter than the standard system. Additionally, new Brembo brakes have been fitted which are six per cent lighter than previously while a further 9 kg (19.8 lbs) has been saved with bespoke forged wheels.

What's more, Pagani has developed an entirely new composite material for the Huayra BC which it says is 50 per cent lighter and 20 per cent stronger than carbon fiber. No details about this material have been given but it could be a development of carbo-titanium, also developed by the marque.

Elsewhere, the Italian hypercar incorporates a number of new aerodynamic components, inspired by Horacio's previous work with Dallara. Every single body panel is new (except the roof) and for the most part, bathed in exposed carbon fiber. Key new elements include the extended front splitter, the massive front canards, bespoke side skirts, the towering rear wing and an aggressive rear diffuser. No downforce figures have been revealed but it is inevitably a lot stickier than the standard Huayra.

Inside, the Huayra BC is just as special as the normal car but rather than the host of brushed aluminum elements like usual, it includes much more matte carbon fiber and plush alcantara. New sports seats have also been fitted.

As for the name, BC stands for Benny Caiola, a friend of Horacio Pagani and his first customer.

Just 20 units of the car will be produced and despite being priced at €2.3 million ($2.5 million) each, all have already sold.
