It is 100% sure it is a Toyota test car. Whether it will ever come out, time will tell. But again, as pointed out in the original article, it tends to corroborate Tada-san's hints about a faster version.

I'm just trying to say all this peculation is pointless. Plus you could have a better car with aftermarket tuning for less money so this potential version of the car is irrelevant already.

It's entirely possible that Gazoo, since they're owned and operated by Toyota, just wanted to get some 'Ring time to test their stuff.

It doesn't seem likely that Toyota would engineer a larger NA FA boxer engine from scratch though, especially when the FA20 is holding up so well to forced induction and that both Subaru and Toyota have a long history of factory forced induction. And the news that Toyota is teaming up with BMW for a high hp I-6. A larger and more powerful FA would encroach on the I-6's territory.

Although Subaru does need to phase out the EJ25 in the STi. Maybe they're working on an FA25 turbo for the new STi.

Exactly, when they were testing the Power plant and drive train for the twins, the test car definitely wasn't a twin.

I wouldn't turn my nose up at a turbo FA25 BRZ though. Maybe with slightly wider hips in the back and some real meat on the tires. Say, 350-400 hp.

I doubt any of us would.

That's the one thing that's really bugged me about the STi. In the time that it's been out, the WRX has gone from 227 hp to 268 hp, with associated suspension and drivetrain upgrades, just to stay competitive with its peers. At the same time, the STi has gone from 300 hp to... 305. Fucking woo. It should be 350+ by now. The price has sure as hell gone up though. There's really no point to getting an STi over a WRX other than DCCD and different wheels.

Well then... let's see what Dale Lomas, the authority on all things Nürburgring in the English speaking world, has to say about this...

http://bridgetogantry.com/2/index.ph...ed-on-the-ring

Quote:
Sometimes I spot a cool car on the 'Ring, but I don't have any clue what it is, why it's here, or anything... and this carbon-clad Toyota GT86 is just one of these moments.
But here's some of my own observations:
  • The red DAU plates are consistent with other Toyota/Lexus prototypes testing at the 'Ring, such as the Lexus LFA. That and the fact that I took these shots in a private 'industry pool' session makes this a 'works' car.
  • Mis-matched wheels scream motorsports, but it's probably just testing different tyres.
  • Cabin has no rollcage, but harnesses and rather cool bucket seats. This means cool roadcar, not refugee race car sneaking a test in i-pool.
  • The bonnet (hood), roof and bootlid (trunk) are all real carbon-fibre, at least that's my best guess judging by the light and the shut lines. They're not 'wraps'.
  • The wing is awesome and reminiscent of the Gazoo racing SP3 GT86.
  • The brakes are also heavily upgraded in a way that might be considered overkill for a 200hp road car.
  • The race-car exhaust note and high-rpm suggest it's more like a 220hp special. Sadly no turbo or supercharger sound effects.
  • It's RHD... and it has Rays Engineering wheels (I think). These two things point to a Gazoo Racing, JDM-only special edition.
That's my 2¢...
