Beefed up 86 spied @ Nürburgring

Coherent with Tada-san's recent declaration and the rumors of a Gazoo-tuned version of the GT86.

From what we can see: souped up brakes, lightweight parts, downforce and increased cooling. Looks more extreme than the BRZ tS prototypes spied back in the days...

Hopefully not JDM-only.

This looks like a POV to me, and like they made contact with something on the front too! Whoops!

Thanks for sharing!

I see nothing to imply that it's a prototype and not just someone on the ring with a GT86...

The multiples antennas for telemetry, the pitot tube on the hood to get true airspeed and the fact it was shot during industry pool are pretty definite clues...
Manufacturer license plates might give a hint too. Take your pick.

Didn't even notice the data recording bits. That makes it much more interesting.

looks like stuff i would do if i had the money to do it... doesn't look special or oem-styled at all to me... just a dude with some cash and an 86

Yeah... No.

See above, people can make the difference between the over crowded public weekend sessions and the OEM-only factory pool sessions.

Kimsey47 06-24-2014 09:51 AM

Would Gazoo be in OEM pool sessions then? (Not trolling, just not "Ring" savvy)

Guillaume 06-24-2014 09:54 AM

Well Gazoo is owned by Toyota, after all :)

Front lip and hood vents look identical to the Gazoo race car:

Rear wing is different.

I wish they make some parts from the race car available to the public, like this intake manifold and airbox:

Roadcone 06-24-2014 10:44 AM

there is an airbox similar to that for sale. just saw it this morning. it was like 2200 bucks tho

gymratter 06-24-2014 11:31 AM

maybe an early test mule for the refresh / facelift 86/FRS.

Are manufacturer license plates normally blocky and multicolor like that? Is that how you can tell?

No. You can tell because they are European format (blue rectangle on the side), on white background with red letters. In Germany, that means "test drive" plates. Like that:

RHD car, with two asians onboard driving around during the industry pool sessions on German "test drive" plates; I am gonna go on limb here and say that it is indeed an OEM prototype.
