I would still have taken my BRZ over the 370Z, especially at the price I paid.

It would be interesting to see how a FR-S and the base Z would compare around a track. Its about time they dropped the price of that car. Its nice, but I'm keeping my FR-S.

Not sure if you read the OP, or just saw the thread title & assume OP is hating on the FR-S.

Well here is the best I could find.

These are Motor Trend Hot Laps at Laguna Seca both performed by Randy Pobst.
They are performed on different dates but same track and same driver.

Nismo 370Z 2009 -
[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ut0vU5qwoAI"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ut0vU5qwoAI[/ame]

Time: 106.5 seconds

2013 Subar BRZ -
[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38WqRJf7So8"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38WqRJf7So8[/ame]

Time: 1:51.3 which translates to 111.3 seconds.

This makes the Z quite significantly faster on a track.

I know the Z is a Nismo but it is pretty well known that the Nismo package does little for the Z platform and is even known to make the car slower vs the sport package.

It kinda comes down to the fact that you get more for your money if you just plan on only having a stock car and never doing anything to it by going with the Z. In reality, it has better designed suspension and more power. However, it is also heavier, and it will always have that problem. You get less to start off with w/ the FR-S/BRZ, but you have a better platform. Despite the less sophisticated suspension, it's setup really well, has great steering, and good all-around handling right off the bat. The fact that it weighs less and handles well already makes it a great platform to add power to... You also have to consider the fact that the Z has been around a lot longer, so they've had a lot more time to reduce production costs...

I would not be in the least bit surprised that it is the very existence of the Twins that drove the price down on the Z. It isn't like it is a small price reduction, it is huge. The fact it is priced almost exactly the same as an 86 for the base model does not seem coincidental to me. They are losing market share and want it back. It will be interesting to see if that price drop applies in other countries as well.

Wow, I never would've imagined the price of the Z34 dipping this low. Still, I was just never into the styling even if it is selling cheaper. What do they weigh? Like 3200lbs? I drove a z33. Too heavy for my tastes.

That's interesting and very competitive pricing. Will I be on some legal obligation to pop my collar if I buy one?

Okay, all fine and dandy.

But you fail to address that the OP is talking about a Base z (No LSD). Now if you are saying that a LSD doesn't make a difference on the track....

Just go with a header, tune and better tires on a twin. The Z is ugly despite the reduced price. Nothing classic about the look whatsoever IMHO. And it will probably be phased out in a year.

I'd sooner see people trade for the new 'Stang. At least the Boss 302 anyway.
