A few people have had some success applying clear bra material along the area that is contacted. This seems to prevent the rubbing that creates this condition.

Yours might be fine then, mine moves around which is why the thin paint on that piece of metal is no longer there protecting it which is why people get rust, if that little trim piece isn't moving odds are the paint on that piece of metal is intact and the piece isn't rusting.

I bought 3M door edge strips from eBay (~$10). Use ~1 inch strips from the excess (you'll have plenty as the strips are a lot longer than the doors require) and apply it under the rubber strips on the pilars. Done.. killed two birds with one stone.

Ditto for the areas that rub the paint under the mud guards.

Granted, I've only had the car since October, but looks like mine is ok, can't even move the rubber.

I just sprayed rustproof on that area so if there is already rust it won't get worse over time

Made this thread a while back so just to update anyone who's wondering; the part was replaced under warrenty no issue.

Also to stop it from happening again I purchased some cheap phone screen protectors, cut them the width of the door strip and slid them under the seal. Much easier to do with a screen protector then tape because its stiff plastic and you can force it into place.

All I did was spray some rustproofing in between the trim and the pillar, it should stop the rust from getting worst

Thanks for the heads up! Checked mine right away and there was a tiny little bit of rust growing right there. Took it to the dealership today and will have both sides replaced under warranty. Gonna check that spot regularly from now on.

Do you have a case number by any chance? My dealer said they won't warranty this.

Sorry but no I don't.

They never heard of this problem before but agreed that it's not acceptable on a one year old car so they just replaced them.

Any reason they don't warranty this case for you? Seems like a lot of other stateside owners got theirs replaced by warranty so you might check with them to see if they have any case number for you.

Good luck!

Mine had that exact rust spot 6 months after purchase. Now 18 months I mentionned it to my dealership at the 3rd service and they replaced this vertical metal divider on the driver's side. They said it was covered by the waranty because there was a recall on the part....?

Can't get more info.
