Power to weight has diminishing returns at a certain point. In the end, more power and heavier will beat lighter with less power.

If you're saying that above certain speeds, power becomes critical to overcome aero drag, I agree with that. Lower horsepower cars won't accelerate well as speeds increase because of the exponentially increasing aero factor, no matter how lightweight they are.
