Oh, my ..... true story time.

My father, who lived in a large, gated, golf course community "quit driving" when he was 95 years old, after he pulled away from a gas station, without removing the filler hose.

The family decided he should no longer be driving, so, my sister "borrowed" his car ..... and never returned it. Instead, we bought him an electric golf cart to drive around his gated community. All was well, until one day, he got a ticket for driving his golf cart ....... into town .....

I have to top off to the nearest whole number. It's how I've always done it, despite everyone telling me to not do it....

What he said, topping off can potentially damage EVAP system and in turn light up a light you don't wanna see on your instrument cluster *cough* CEL *cough*

I always top off to the next dollar. These days that doesn't take much gas. Currently, 94 octane is about $5.70/gal here.

FYI: if you don't know what topping off is; it's when you're filling your car with gas and the pump automatically shuts off with a full tank but you squeeze the nozzle again to get that extra bit of gas in your car.
I topped off that way once, with my car. Threw the gas gauge off, needed to unplug the battery to reset it.

Wait, so filling up your fuel tank doesn't end in petrol suddenly bursting out and overflowing everywhere?

My local gas station must have shitty pumps. Its always a nervous guess trying to slow it when it starts getting close to full. That being said its only ever happened with the 86 and none of my other cars...

maybe your evap vent thingy is already clogged?

I would think that would be one of the side effects, but thats just a guess.
