Hi Folks,

I don't really understand all the interest about how many miles/kilometers one can drive on a tank of gas .. ??

To me, it's not a good measure of fuel economy, because of the variable of how much is left in the tank upon fill up.

The only exception on the importance of how far a tank of gas will take you, is if you are driving in these parts:

Some of us still have to drive to work every day, one of the few sensible things about this car is the fuel economy, it's understandable when owners aren't hitting the 30 mpg advertised mileage (by as much as 30% in some cases) in their brand new 2.0L 4-banger.

I know if I bought a car and worked the math out that I only needed to fill up on Tuesdays + trips and I was filling up 2x a week regardless I'd be at least a little disappointed.

While I agree with you wholeheartedly, it's definitely a reasonable thing to post about.

Driver mod?

All joking aside, if I am just driving casual, I normally shift around 3000 RPM. When I get in the 'mood', I gun it to 7000 RPM and shift.

Side note: My Cobalt SS was rated for 22/30. Pretty much got ~22 MPG in the city as stated. Sometimes, I would get 24 MPG. Might have seen 30 MPG ONCE LOL. The average for this car is rated 25 MPG (manual). The fact that I get over that with city driving makes me happy

OH! Point well taken ...... work ..... yes, I remember it well ....

Now, let's see 3 miles to the grocery .... 3 miles back, 3-5 times a week .... 13 gallon (+/-) tank ...... I would note my miles per tank ..... but my memory ain't what is used to be.

However, I do remember that my 1948 Chevrolet got exactly 20.776 miles per gallon, back in the day .....

I have a mostly highway commute and I averaged about 23-24MPG over the past few months. A few weeks ago I started filling up at a station with ethanol free 91 and my mileage went up by about 1-2MPG almost immediately, and is steadily improving. I assumed that because the gas was labeled 93 it'd be fine for the car, but the station must be using cheap gas or may need to clean the tank. The car seems much happier on the better quality 91.

On a somewhat related note the car started throwing codes related to the fuel pump and rail pressure sensor on startup about 2-3 months ago, which I assumed were due to a mechanical or electrical problem. I switched to the ethanol free gas as part of my own troubleshooting of the issue, and in addition to the increased MPG my startup issues went away completely. Between the increased MPG and reliability I'll happily pay a few cents more per gallon.

If you don't think your driving style is part of the problem it could be the gas you're using.
It might be the gas, right now i fill at 93 octane with 10% ethanol at a Gulf station. I will try switching and see if i notice an improvement, thanks.

I'm doing about 50/50 down here in Florida and get at least 250 and on occasion 300 miles a tank, I am not light on mine either but I am still getting decent gas mileage.

I'm at about 150 on this current at the half way mark. 85% highway. Didn't fill completely up last time. I'm expecting to get about 300-330 per tank.

Also i used 91 octane w/ 10%. Will report back when i have a tank 100% 91.

Oklahoma doesnt have 93 which sucks.

I know there are many mpg threads, which concerns me even more because i see many people are getting 250+miles. Could there possible be something wrong with my car? Or do i really just need to change my driving ways.
Op, I'm in Queens as well and also getting the same low gas mileage as you. My daily commute is from Woodside, across the 59th street bridge and up to 85th and Second, total of 4 miles. No traffic, I average 18mpg according to display. I usually put $25 every four days if all I do is commute to work and back.

Today had to run some errands and drove around Jackson Heights around 5-6pm, stop and go traffic. I was averaging 13mpg :thumb down:

Why do people use miles per tank? It will never be the same for any two tanks. You have to divide miles by gallons you put in at full up
