If you've never heard about them, it's a book made on Japan where they compile all the parts for a particular car. You want headers, go to page 176 (for example) and bang. It's all in Japaenese, but you get your head around it fairly easily. Half the magazine is articles, interviewing shops about parts coming up, or that they're testing. It doesn't show everything (suppliers have to pay for the ads) but it shows a shit load more than you'll find being discussed on here. There's bound to be Japanese forums as well, but they'll be in Japanese ! |

I search online and can't find anything about headers I know are for sale so while I understand what your are saying it isn't always a case of dumb Americans only considering their own shops. Take HKS for example.

Sweet thanks. I took a couple of years of japanese in college, so I can pick up on most of the stuff (Especially the katakana, where it's basically english words in japanese syllables) Will definitely have to check it out

Regardless of that, perhaps the reason Japanese products aren't mentioned as much is that they aren't accessible here. Few distributors and high price of entry. I'm sorry there are almost no parts made in your country but having access to locally made products here has many advantages. It's cheaper and much easier to get warranty work/returns handled. It probably doesn't hurt that our domestic products are actually pretty good too. If there were a magical Japanese header that was far superior, I'm sure we'd be all over it too. Their products are for the large part, massively overpriced for what you get. Look at half the cusco stuff like their rear diff kit or oil cooler kit. Look at some of the stupid air intakes for $2000+ dollars... It's just far more practical to buy domestic goods when they are largely just as good as imported goods. TL, DR: So fuck you buddy! Also, it's quite apparent that you knew what you were saying would illicit alleged "patriotic" reactions by your comment of "let the flaming/patriotism begin". Do you actually contribute anything other than troll type posts here? A pick glance at your posting history seems to imply that infact you are the troll, not the various others that disagree with your posts. |

I've found two Japanese headers for sale one the HKS is largely considered the benchmark. The other the HPI Takumi series is only found on Japanese sites or oddly enough a forum post here.
Probably because it's $1450 before shipping or coating . and it has no dyno, and no forum posting. Cost is the reason....there are japanese members on here, none have really talked about tons of JDM parts. And how much better they are.

My point in this thread is that is apart always US based posters, get US based answers, under the guise of it being the best in the world. I understand its cheaper in the US to get parts locally. But for me, and others, the opposite is true. It's cheaper to get parts out of Japan. As far as taking the poss out of where each other lives, I'm all for banter. But try and learn that Australia and NZ are not the same country first. (We don't have dingos, or kangaroos, or shrimp on the barbie |

Regarding paragraph 2. Me making that comment only proves that I knew the reaction of the forum, not that I thought my comments were trolling. If you and others genuinely think I'm trolling, I'm happy to walk. Personally I think I bring more new information than most users here. The reason you, and others, get butt hurt at some of my posts, is because I don't sugar coat them. If I see bullshit, I call it as bullshit. To answer the OP, because I haven't done that yet. The best headers for you, are headers made for you. I'm not talking about ones made by your local muffler shop. I'm talking about custom made, it suit your power goals, other mods, preferred peak power point, and of course your constraints. You also need to deal with someone that can do the calcs. Surfab in chch is going through this process at the moment for my car. Kelford is doing the math. We believe most headers are being desogned for stock heads/motors. Most headers we've seen aim for peak power around 6500-7000. We're aiming higher than that. But we're also working with Kelford on other products to use to achieve what we're hoping to achieve. |
