I got my new SU003-05176 fuel pump today in my FRS.

It is mechanically quieter than the first replacement pump, which took about two months for the crickets to resume.

I'm also thinking this is a lubricity issue with the alcohol laced fuel as somebody else mentioned.

I've been using TC-W3 oil on a regular basis but with no great success. I did double up on the mixture right before the last pump was to be installed and it did seem to help a little. Unfortunately, it also got colder, so I still don't have a valid test sample.

Time will tell...

It's not that bad really.. Some DFI systems sounds are louder than others.
I agree the chirping isn't normal.. But it hasn't affected performance in any way.
Just another "distinctive" sound from this minimalistic sports car..
Uh oh. That's not good. I took delivery of the car with 7Mi..

And only have 31 miles now.

I hope that crickets doesn't come..

Maybe I should put some of these into my fuel if I do get it.

Oh they will, look at the poll numbers. Many of those that voted "no crickets" came back to the thread to report they now have crickets...so the number of actual cases is higher than the results show.

Besides those that voted too early, you also have a bunch that have no idea what a cricket sounds like and insist their car sounds normal, whereas the rest of us would recognize the sound from blocks away and confirm they do in fact have it.

I'm confident that the crickets are damn near if not fully 100% for the U.S. cars.

Every FRS/BRZ I have ever heard idle has had it (So probably around 30 or so cars)

Mine and several others have gone away, there are members who report thousands of miles with no crickets (whaap comes to mind, maybe humfrz), I think the poll is accurate within 10% plus or minus, the majority of cars have crickets at some point or another.

Remember that a lot of people would never look at a forum for their car and have zero issues to report vs. people who would never look this place up until they had crickets, we won't get a true cross section of owners on a poll like this (not to mention that these kind of polls are rarely secure, someone could be screwing with the numbers either way). The internet amplifies negative responses, it's a simple truth.

At this point, I'm not sure what to think. I know for a fact my car never made this sound before I brought it in, but on the other hand the dealership was able to reproduce it on three seperate FR-S in stock as a normal sound.

I'm going to record the noise on my next cold start and post it up, maybe you guys can clear this up for me. I'm unsure if I should even bother taking it to another dealership, as it seems like they are likely to tell me the same thing.

Ill try and post the soundclip soon. Thanks for reading
I'm almost certain you are hearing the direct injection. It was probably masked by the chirping. It's an odd noise at first but then you learn it's the sound of the engine working correctly. Just make a video and post up to see if that's in fact what it is.

Hello,

I recorded the sound this morning.

http://chirb.it/shxygt (Noise first appears around 0:15)

Let me know what you guys think. My car did not make this noise previous to the HPFP install.

That does sound a little obnoxious. Do you RPMs raise?

Yes, the noise happens when I accelerate out of idle, and is no longer audible when the RPMS pass ~1800.

Keep in mind is that is being recorded from a phone that was sitting literally 6 inches away from the pump as I was pressing the gas pedal. Just for context. It doesn't sound nearly that bad from inside the cabin, just sounds like a mechanical clicking noise that is only audible in the lower RPMs as im accelerating from idle.
