I had read this thread before and it left me wondering how the heck could someone cross-thread these bolts? I get it now but still maintain that it’s not hard to install the inserts without cross-threading.
A couple tips I think could help: -Jack the subframe back up against the body prior to putting the bolts in, don’t use the bolts to pull the subframe up. - Use a flashlight and look up the hole to check if it’s aligned, if not, man-handle the subframe into position - As countless others have stated, if you cannot thread the bolts in by hand something is misaligned. Using the above and a prybar I was able to easily thread all the bolts in by hand far enough to ensure they were properly installed.

so im not 100%, but i probably cross threaded my rear driver side. was a b*tch to get it in and aligned.
I put in the inserts and now sometimes usually when turning in/out of parking lots and hitting the little bumps rear end makes a little clunking sound. also this may or may not be related to cross threading, but at 75+ car starts to vibrate a lot. i seen on another thread someone had same problem when they had motor mounts, trans collar, diff inserts, dss cf driveshaft, and then installed subframe inserts said it "broke the camels back" either way im removing the inserts tomorrow. if i do need to tap the hole with a m14x1.5 do i need a new bolt that same size or does the stock one still work? ive never had to tap before. |

Necrooooo.
I messed up the forward right side one on my rear subframe to the point where I'm not sure it's save-able. I tried a thread chaser on it, and I think that made it worse, because it got misaligned and I couldn't tell right away. Forward right front might still be save-able, and I have a tap on the way to try.Thoughts on just drilling and tapping for m16 or 5/8-18? The barrels in the subframe bushings have tons of clearance. -Mike |
