I kind of doubt either of the twins will be true collectors' items in all honesty (yes even the brz won't really be collectors' items) unless you're planning on keeping things stock and making it a garage queen (why would you do that?). Yes there are definitely more FRSs out there compared to BRZs, but given how successful they've been I foresee many more of these getting in the streets. The twins will be as much a collectors item as the 350z/370z. FRS owners pull stuff out of their ass that the Toyota warranty is better than Subarus, and BRZ owners make up tales about FRS insurance rates being a lot higher. In summary, yes the BRZ seems to be a bit of a better value compared to the FRS if you compare MSRPs, but we're really splitting hairs here. The discriminators between the twins really fall in the "doesn't really matter" category IMO if you're buying the car to be a "driver's car".

I think this question boils down to paint and front bumpers. The other minor differences are just nagging details.

I like the FR-S bumper but not more than I like WRB paint. Silver Ignition still reminds me of the popularly silver sedan/vans/sports cars/everythings of the '90/2000s. Makes this question a no-brainer (to me). Now that silver has been used, I look forward to what subsequent Release Series FR-Ses' colors will be.

If you are going with the BRZ, you might as well wait for a 2014 and get the padded kneepads and upgraded stereo. This is from a 10 series owner.

I picked the 10 series because I am a Toyota guy and have done buisness with my local dealer before. If I went BRZ I would have probably bought one out of town which would have made servicing and warranty work more of a hassle. I also like the Scion front end better and the suspension setup (if one can even really tell the difference!)

If the world were perfect, I would have either a red or orange GT86 limited sitting in my garage rather than a Scion or Subaru.

I kept seeing posts from FRS owners that were like "BRZ this BRZ that". Sadly those illuminating Scion badges have "steal me" written all over them.

When talking about how rare the car's colors are you guys need to do more research because the BRZ and FR-S share the same colors only with different names.

With this said the rare colors are the Hot Lava and Silver ignition paint only offered on the FR-S.

Also the trim level on the 10 Series FR-S is basically the same as a FT-86 minus the Toyota emblems. Everyone always talks about the JDM headlight on the FT-86 but if you do more research you will find out that there's FT-86's sold in Japan with the same headlights as sold on the FR-S.

Here's a link go look at the different FT-86 trim levels.

If you like the silver color on the 10 Series, I'd go with that. The 10 Series basically fixes everything I don't like about the FR-S, but keeps the things I like.

In my opinion:

- FR-S front bumper > BRZ
- FR-S fender treatment > BRZ
- FR-S white tach > BRZ
- FR-S wingless > BRZ Limited wing
- FR-S radio < BRZ (fixed by 10 Series)
- FR-S climate control < BRZ (fixed by 10 Series)
- FR-S key entry < BRZ (fixed by 10 Series)
- FR-S halogen lights < BRZ (fixed by 10 Series)

The 10 Series is basically the best of both worlds. Just don't turn on the LED badges ever.

Either way, these have been good threads to point out the differences, helping lots I'm sure in the future.
From what I can see in pictures, the 10 series still lacks the fog lights, heated & leather/alcantara seats, & leather wrapped e-brake handle. All of which the BRZ has, and with the price of the 10 series so close to the BRZ-L, you're getting a bit less for the money with the 10 series.

I still drool over the headlights though

You can get it shipped, or you can fly over there, pick it up and make an awesome roadtrip out of it

Well @Gaiakai you can put those other parts on the 10 series FR-S and still have less money in the car vs a BRZ and have a true Toyota FT-86.

The 10 Series FR-S gives you the $2,400.00 JDM headlights in it's pricing which is a plus in my opinion. Buy a base FR-S and then buy the JDM headlights and your at 10 Series FR-S pricing.

Oh a what's this about no foglights I've got them.

Like I said in my post, I'm still jealous of your JDM headlights so I agree with you there, very good value. However the 10 series MSRP is at 28,180 according to the website. The BRZ MSRP is 28,265 (again, from website including destination). Leather e-brake is priced at $108 from the subaruonlineparts website, so that alone has the 10 series priced more than the BRZ. How much would it cost to add heated & leather/alcantara seats? Did your foglights cost you anything by any chance?

And then add in the fact that you can get the BRZ-L for way less than MSRP, I'm just saying the prices are so close yet the BRZ gives you a bit more. And even the BRZ Premium comes with HID headlights.

Plus, everybody knows a TRUE GT86 is red

I kid I kid :happy0180:

I say it comes down to the headlight design (boomerang or straight DRL), grill, and color as has been mentioned previously.
I was going to pick up a WRB BRZ Limited until I ran across the 10 Series at the dealer I went to to check out the Hot Lava color to try to get $ off the BRZ. I'm still not sure what I would have gone with if the dealer hadn't made a mistake on my trade-in value. He told me since he had written it down he'd honor it, but would write up a new trade-in if I walked off the lot (the extra $1.5k was a good enough deciding factor). I prefer WRB over the silver, I like the Scion grill more, headlights are a wash, and I don't care much about heated or leather seats since I live near Atlanta where heated seats are a non-issue and the leather seats would just be uncomfortably hot when getting in the car. I like the 2014 HU of the Scion more, but nav would have been nice.

If I could have bought them at the exact same price I probably would have leaned towards BRZ simply for color choice and the fact that I wouldn't be driving a budget brand car (now if the FR-S was Toyota over here like it is in foreign markets that would make the decision that much harder).

My 10 Series was $27,181.45 with window tint and foglights.

Well know after listening to everyone else, it seems the warranties are the same, although subaru dealers react differently to mods then the toyota ones that's for sure. As soon as you crack open the crankcase to do any internal work on the engine it voids the engine warranty and I think the same goes for a tune. If you go forced induction you void the warranty. As for other simple bolt ons like cold air intake, headers, headerback, exhaust, driveshafts, flywheels, clutches, pulleys and coilovers, the warranty will only be voided on that part. If they try and blame the failure of another unmodified part on one of your mods they have to prove it first in order to be able to refuse warranty service.

I managed to get my Limited BRZ under 26k. No questions asked, I'd get another BRZ before I go for the 10 Series
