Luckily I can always say GT86 without further explanations needed, unless I want to tell the whole story

it's sold as the Toyota GT86 here, so I refer to it as that.

I just call it "the FR-S" but I don't call it a "Scion" unless asked.

If the quality issues get worked out, Toyota is posed to claim the GT86 in the US and shut down Scion. If the quality issues persist, scion will lose their customer base and this will just end up another discontinued sports car.

I've heard that Tada is not such a golden child after what the FR-S did to Scion's ranking in JDPowers and is off the Supra project , JDPowers is a big deal for the USA market, Scion went from very high on the list in to dead last worst in the industry. Rumor is the 2014 was delayed from the typical July release because of this.
That's the first time I have ever heard of this particular tinfoil hat conspiracy. And for the record, Scion has always been below Toyota in JD power quality surveys.

For completeness, I should also mention that NZ gets the TRD86 & TR86. :-)

And to get the FRS crowd really wound up, the 86RC !!

Kinda off topic but where did you get the Toyota emblem?

I'll just call it a Scion FRS since that just clarifies what it is, and where they can go to buy one if they like my car so much, and know the name of what to ask for.

Since, after 10 years, most of the people who can actually afford a $25,000 new car today, are usually in the know of Scion being very much, a Toyota, and there's no reason to really fool anyone that it is anything else. The FRS/GT86/86 and even the BRZ is made in the same exact factory, so there really isn't a significant difference, except for the fact that most North Americans pay roughly $26,000 for a decently equipped one, and Subaru BRZ Limited and FR-S 10th Anniversary with luxury features cost about $30,000, and everyone else in the world pays $30,000+ starting bare-bone, and depending on the local import taxes, can go as high as $50,000+. So you can tell folks in America that they are getting a BARGAIN!!

On my bill of sale it says, and I quote:

"Toyota Scion FR-S"

I just call it an FR-S, really. I had this issue when I had my 135i. 80% of the people I talked to didn't even know BMW made a 1-series. So I just called it whatever I felt like calling it that day. Usually "something fast".

So I don't care if people are confused. I prefer to call it a Toyota GT86 even if they don't know what it is. And yes, I have all the correct badges to justify it.
The tC makes up for about half (or more) of all Scion sales every year. If anything, I see the brand associated with a well-priced 2 door sport-ish coupe. Maybe I'm biased because I owned a tC for 8 years before my FR-S, but I call it what it is. It's no better than people who put H badges on their Integras or Silvia logos on their 240SX.
