I'd say that until someone buys one and installs it, it's all speculation as to how it will work. I installed a factory accessory sub for a PT Cruiser that is very similar to this type setup and it had more than enough bass and the interior cubic feet is way more than this car. It aslo has an adjustment on the side of the sub but you can't get to it without pulling the side panel in the car. I guess we'll just have to wait for someone to buy and install one for the real assesment. If I hadn't just sprung for the Valenti tailights, it might have been me but I'll have to wait awhile now to add this option.

Could you just use the harness and install a different sub/amp combo?

Also curious if this works with the FRS

OK, The factory "Kicker" Subwoofer and built in amp with system crossover has been installed!!

The results: Fantastic!!

I am an audiophile and need my car to have a complete system that meets at least certain criteria. Before the subwoofer, the sound of the system had some quality but was incomplete and unsatisfactory. The new Kicker factory system adds a very nice 10inch Kicker subwoofer w/built in bass amp. The Kicker puts out all the bass that anyone could need (some might desire more, but it would just make the car shake even more than it does now, along with your inner organs....)
The key is the crossover in the wiring that makes all of the speakers sound better as they are only trying to do what they were designed to do, and not trying to replicate the entire frequency range. The EQ in the factory unit now actually has "real" control over the frequencies and is much more usable with good results than before.

I tested Hip-Hop, Jazz, and rock at the dealer with the service tech (who also owns a BRZ but has not modified the stereo yet). He felt that it truly completed the stereo system and he is now interested in buying one. Personally I am highly satisfied. What you get for the price is excellent value.

I looked over the OEM Audio 400. It is obviously a good system. My only comment that would be I spent only $621.00 on the Kicker and that includes full installation. The OEM unit is $1200.00 before installation. It is doubtful that the OEM system is worth 800.00 to 1,000.000 more (depending on installation costs plus delivery costs) than the Kicker factory unit. But everyone is different, and we all have different criteria levels that must be met. I would not tell anyone what they should get, but just want to make sure that everyone has the necessary info to make a good decision on how best to improve their BRZ sound system.

Great review. The oem auto can be shipped to your door for about 950. Wish you were local so we could check out eachothers systems.

The only problem is that the system for that price is setup for an FRS and not the BRZ from what I've read.

From what I understand, the DSP is programmed differently. That's why you have to select the radio type that you have on their website when you order the system. Cheapest I've found the system is $999 for the FRS system from http://www.toyotapartsoutlet.com/scr...idproduct=-240 I haven't been able to find it any cheaper than MSRP for the BRZ setup though.

Really want to see someone compare the OEM+ and the factory Kicker setup side by side though as it seems like the factory option does more than just add bass.

I got the OEM Audio price of $1,199.00 from their website. There may be better deals on them somewhere, I just did not find them.

But again, it is about what you want and what you are willing to spend.

I have had custom designed and built rear speaker cabinets (with Sub and ribbon tweeters) and many high end auto stereos. I find the Kicker to be just what the system needed at a great price. It is a personal decision though.

Yes, the crossover reduces the amount of bass sent to all the other speakers. It also seems to find a great balance of sound which was never available until it was installed.
