NEW Nissan 240SX in the works

The S2K was pricey but its Target was a different market than the FRS/BRZ. There has been talk in the past of an S2000 replacement thought initially sounded more like a miata HP between 200 - 220 lighter than the previous and still a 2 seater. Engine was supposed to be some type of hybrid. The thing got cancelled back when the economy crashed, but maybe the sales of the BRZ/FRS will get it started back up.

After having an S2K I was not to excited about hearing the replacement would be less powerful and a hybrid specially since the less than spectacular CRZ was released... but I do agree with a previous poster though if Honda made a light RWD coupe I would be swayed to get it instead of the FRS/BRZ

Looks like they just noticed how popular the 86 is, and decided they want in on marketshare. I think it's a bunch of fluff, though, because the guy being interviewed just said IDK a lot. He doesn't seem interested by it at all.

If Nissan brought back the RWD affordable sports car like the 240, I may have to wait around for it before I buy this FRS... MAYBE.

I'm curious as to why? What would make a similar Nissan better than an FRS/BRZ?

Looks. I used to love the looks of the 240sx. If they somehow brought it back with today's modern style, and could compete with the FRS, then why not?

Not saying the FRS isn't a good looking car, but I do love Nissans style and the looks of all their sports cars. I'd be willing to wait. I could only imagine what they could pull off after learning from the FRS/BRZ.

Hehe, you must love your Nissans. I respect that. I kind of doubt cars will ever look as good as they did in the 90's. Althought the FRS comes close.

My favorite brands are Mitsubishi and Toyota. I love how Mitsubishi used to in some way or another race every one of their vehicles (and win!) and I also loved their styling with cars like the 3000GT/GTO, FTO, Eclipse, Lancer Evo, and Montero/Pajero. Toyota was also awesome in the 90's with the Celica, Supra, MR2, and RAV4. But for the last decade, I have hated Toyota because they only made extremely boring, cheap, and overpriced cars.

Mitsubishi may be going the way Toyota went too because they are discontinuing the Eclipse and possibly the Evo. They recently announced that they want to be known as a green car company with cars like the MiEV electric crap. And lately, they are falling behind with technology - they don't have any cars with direct injection even though they made the first production cars with gasoline direct injection in the 90's!! It's tragic really...

I also always liked Mazda for their Miatas and RX-7s. They were beautiful and unique cars... Heck, I just love all Japanese sports cars! To me, they had so much character. I just hope this new age of government regulations and economic turmoil doesn't prevent a new wave of unique and stylish Japanese sports cars.

I don't think he meant dropping a 4 cylinder in a Z...he's saying for Nissan's next sports car why not make it a 4 cylinder?

I like the idea though. I think this is what people would hope the Ft-86 would do, bring back the classic small sports cars. I'm a Honda fan but don't see anything special coming from them especially with the direction the company is going.

Perhaps his comment was a bit ambiguous... it would be crazy to put a 4 cyl. in a Z and make it a FRS/BRZ competitor.

I do agree with whoever said it before, I hope Toyota/Subaru sells a million of these cars and it lights a fire under the asses of Nissan, Honda, Mazda, et al.

Hey shards, that was me! I figured that most if not all that are purchasing/considering the FRS/BRZ in these forums felt the same way that I did as those cars were great! I also agree with the comments above about Mitsubishi. The mid-late 90's Eclipse was great, and then the 3000GT was a force on the street. When they redid the Eclipse they fail off the face of the earth concerning my radar... Each maker in the 90's had their car and/or individual techs that made them stand out, so yeah... Here's to Subaru/Toyota lighting that fire! Bring it on!

Toyota and Subaru joined forces because Toyota owns like 20% of Subaru (FHI). They also often source parts from the same companies like Denso and Aisin (which are also partially owned by Toyota). So it makes sense for them to join forces. Honda and Nissan however are absolute competitors and too different. If anything Nissan would partner with Renault (who owns 40% of the company) to make something.

I'd rather see them do their own thing anyway. Like a new NSX to compete with the GT-R and perhaps a new S2000 and Silvia to compete with the FRS/BRZ and MX-5 Miata. But as I said before, I think these days they need to come up with something fairly unique to catch people's interest. A simple NA I4 FR probably won't cut it.

They've been trying this with weird hybrid ff cars. Everyone wants an I4 FR.
