I was reading Toronto Star wheels section this morning and the writer mentions a starting price of just under 30K for the FRS. I figure the BRZ will start around 33K Cdn.

But with all the options Scion will offer it will easily reach or surpass the Subaru models starting price.

No, what the Star writer actually stated was that the price would be "below $30K", not "just under" - big difference. Prediction for base FR-S: $27-28K

Toyota does not do the marketing for nothing. Creating buyer interest and a strong demand means they can charge more for the car.

When there is no demand it goes on sale.

The initial target price was around US$20K.?

Honestly...if the car ends up being around $27-$28k I don't know how will this car be considered "affordable" because it is quite pricey...I know that it is an FR, so it will be considerably MUCH more fun driving, butttt at that price the Honda Civic Si will be sooo much more appealing, because it is cheaper than that!

if scion sells it at that price, then subaru would have to sell it for 1-2k more. i don't really see a brz going for 29-30k. factor in taxes/fees and you're looking at 32k. i don't really see that happening if subaru actually wants to sell these to the consumers.

I agree! I actually think Scion will be selling it between $20-$23k, and then BRZ selling between $25k-$27k. That seems more likely. Like I have been reading in other places. Errrmmm...I might have not remembered the correct estimations, but it was somewhere around that I believe.

The FRS at 20k is the biggest crackpipe dream ever especially in Canada where the TC starts at 20K

The lowest price I can imange for the FRS will 23K for the US which would mean more around 24-25K in Canada. This would put the the BRZ at around 30K in Canada given Subarus gaint mark up in the Canadian market

Yea I wouldlove for the FRS to be cheap but give me a break you can get acar with all this new tech for dirt cheap. Hell the Integra Type-R which this thing is almost like except for the RWD started around 26K and that was along time ago if you account for inflation and the fact that its a brand new platform unlike the Integra than 27K doesnt seem as terrible tho I am relly rellyhoping for 25K

Say a $23,999 US MRSP market price, then $25,999 CAD MRSP market price, there or there abouts seems reasonable. It doesn't look like Scion has nearly the cross border markup that Subaru does.

What will be interesting is the difference in parts. When I had my '07 Civic Si it was way cheaper (including exchange rate, shipping, etc...) to order uprated suspension from a US Honda dealer compared to what anyone in the GVRD was offering.

Pray for a $21500 US MSRP... Toyota must realize what Hyundai has in store. If the new GC is the same $22250 as the current car but with a 275hp/tq engine, more standard technology, nicer interior and more space then that is a hell of a good value. The current generation and next gen Mustangs are also solid bang for your $22000.

So I just put my deposit down a couple of days ago and got some new info.

The guy I talked to was Ahmed, which is the same guy as Mr.Jay. He said that the best estimate he can give me is the car will be release between the end of April and May. He also said that if Scion follows the same pattern as the iQ release then the Canadian price for the car will be announced a month and a half in advance.

As for the HVAC being an option or not he said to not get my hopes to high, because Scion uses the monospec sales model having the automatic HVAC as an option will stray from that cause most of the options they offer is dealership installed.

Any idea how many people made a deposit so far? When I was there a week ago I was 6th in line.

At that rate the first batch will be sold out before it even reach the dealership.
