Clutch and gas to the floor, with the e-brake held on, quickly let your foot off the clutch.

You were asking how to do a burnout at the track, right?

If I don't think about it, it's like there's not even a hill there.

It's hard to explain, it's like I feel urged to give it more throttle and dump the clutch, whereas I wouldn't have that issue when I'm not thinking about it. Purely psychological issue for myself.
My FR-S is my first manual car and I do the same thing. It's easier said than done, though.

unfortunately,if you roll back at all,it's too much, especially if someone is right on your bumper. use the hand brake, and learn how to "catch" the engagement point on the clutch, and then quickly release the brake.

At the end of the day there are still going to be drivers who can't drive up a hill well, heel-toe well, or drive well, period. For the rest of us, shut up and enjoy your assist-less car.
this is true! hence, the use of the hand brake. many, many moons ago when driving instructors STILL taught 'stick" they elaborated on if you went to the registry for your driver's road test, that IF you rolled back at all on an incline it would mean an automatic fail, which it was (fail) in just about every state.

I practiced a lot on my driveway and anywhere with hills. I used hand brake for a week and I dont use it anymore. All about the right timing.

if someone is tail gating the hell out of me i would hold the brake pedal and get the clutch right at the biting point then let off the brake and then gas. it will go like an automatic with 0 roll back. 1 inch roll back is hardly even noticeable also. lol.

i still find heel and toe very difficult for this car. the pedals are just too far apart height wise.

yes this is true up here in canada too. its an auto fail if you rolled back. drivers now a days are taught with stop and go lesseons.

My FR-S is my first manual car too and I went from being anxious as hell when coming up to a hill to the point it no longer bothers me unless its the type of hill you launch the space shuttle off of.

Like everyone else has said practice and hand brake. Practice is the key really. Just take a route that has a few hills where you'll be force to get use to it over and over. If you ever feel uncomfortable with a hill use that hand brake. No shame in being safe. I did a few times since I just wasn't feeling it, but the next time around it made me that much more determine to attack that hill without a roll back.

You're also just going to find what works for you. As a few said getting really close to the catching point right before you take off works great for me.

I DD mine in downtown SF during rush hour every day and make fun of all the noobs in their manual E92 M3s with hill assist. I make dead eye contact with them at stoplights while I manually pull and release my handbrake multiple times. It takes some serious skill to pull a handbrake, and the girls (and boys) love it.

Heel and toe only comes into to play under relatively hard braking. If it was easy with normal (barely enough) braking, then it would be useless on a track or spirited run. I just throttle blip and down shift if hard braking isn't needed.
