I have to disagree with this assessment. I'm no drag monkey (not with a WRX and a glass tranny), but drag racing clearly involves plenty of skill with respect to reaction time, and achieving the perfect launch with skilled use of clutch, brake, and gas. I agree that after the launch, most of it is pretty autopilot, but a lot goes into that launch. And unlike drifting (which I highly admire), it's quantitative.

They're all forms of motorsport in my opinion. I don't belong in one camp more than another, but I do agree that an S2000 is for tracking, not dragging. Just like how an F-body Firebird/Camaro is more for dragging than anything else, though I bet it would make pretty smoke were it drifted.

Drag racing is like sprinting; drifting is like gynmastics. There are unique skills required both for driving and tuning for each.

I need to get back into auto crossing if I get this car... I guess that would be my plan for it other than a DD.

I'd be tracking the car as soon as it comes off the lot...probably stripped soon after....no drifting for me...no autocrossing either...

And I would call that s2000 a waste of a car. I call any drag car, a waste of car....well, with few a exceptions. But all of that is meaningless anyways. The entire argument that started with my comment is pretty silly, considering it was started on a matter of opinion.

I think it's more about proving that it can be done with a car that was built for a track. When the car came out, even hitting 400 whp was incredibly hard, and now people are hitting 700+ reliably on a daily basis, so it's gotten to be proving a point that it can be done now out of that little 4 banger.

Granted, people use cars every day for a purpose other than what it was intended for.

Reaction timing and clutch use in regards to hard-launching are tough skills to hone, indeed.
