ANYWAYS, I would like to hear the Borla UEL away from that concrete wall because it sounds like its echoing off the wall to me. I would also like to hear it at idle to see how much burble it has. Personally I love the boxer rumble and if it doesn't lose power, bring it on.

Keith, you are definitely putting the borla on the AIRAID car right? If it sounds good in real life then I may have to get it.

i watched that first vid with my dog sitting on my lap, and she shied away from the computer. i think the noise scared her. lol.

also: i've always had a thing for that boxer rumble. it just sounds powerful. definately gonna wait and see what the number differences are between el and uel headers before deciding though

Yes, hopefully it gets here soon. We will have a build thread pretty quick here too.

That's simply not true.
You can clearly see in the pics of the OE headers that the primaries are all the same length or very close if there is any difference. Certainly nothing like 30%

Historically speaking, EL headers on a NA Subi motor make more power down low and in the mid range. And yes, they tend to sound a little more like an inline 4. UEL headers do bring out the Boxer sound more.

Personally, I've found that with the right cat-back exhaust on the BRZ/FRS, there's seems to be a happy medium. There's a little rumble in there that is definately not an inline-4, but not full-on boxer. Enough to give it character and separate the Twins from the masses of I4's running around the streets.

I will be leaving the stock headers on and just doing a cat-back. Makes my life easier since I'm in Cali. Maybe at a later date I'lll go a full header, once there's something that's CARB legal floating around.

Since I was under the car again I thought I'd see if a WRX MY11 header would fit.

Looks like it might fit.

You can see the UEL nature of these headers.

The right side looks good. Except it doesn't bolt up to the over pipe. Which isn't a big drama. Can't believe the flanges and width are the same.

Radiator hose and inlet are in the way. So close, yet so far.

You can see on the 86 headers where they've given room for the radiator hose.
The flange for the up-pipe on the MY11 headers is at the wrong angle for the 86 over-pipe.
At least this will give me a template to work with when building a new set of headers.

Sorry but wrong...

Now, why they ran an unequal length design (32% variance between Y lengths) from the factory when they could have accomplished exactly what we did is beyond me...but then again, Subaru sends the US insanely unequal length headers for the STi and the JDM model gets EL header w/ Twin Scroll turbo.

So anyone else besides Borla developing some UEL Headers(sorry if I missed that in this thread, I skimmed thru since there's so much useless 'ricer' related banter)?

Anyone have any out yet?

Thanks
