They will be debuting in the 3 next year. They are gonna be showing them at the New York Auto Show.

It is coming out this fall for 2012 production cars. They have a gasoline and a diesel version.

i understand this but like i said earlier the F22C from the AP2 S2000 also has a 90mm stroke. and it was awesome revving to 8000rpm. it does however have longer rods, and it's obviously not a flat four so doesn't have the clearance issues. when news of the FB20 first broke i did create a thread discussing whether some people would prefer the EJ over FB, specifically due to the borexstroke ratio.

The K20A isn't that different to the Z3. Actually the K20Z3 has a better intake manifold than the K20A2, so it's not the handsdown the "worst" of the K20s. Part of the reason why it feels worse is the DBW and the rev hang. Power-wise, balance shaft in the Z3 takes a small bit away, which is why the Si has slightly lower output than the RSX (but less low RPM vibrations, a complaint RSX-S owners have had).

K20A has finer sand cast ports, 11:5 comp pistons with less restrictive exhaust manifold and cat, different intake manifold. In short the K20A is hands-down the best, the rest of the ~200hp K20s are pretty similar.

Have they ever confirmed the FT86 using a variant of the FB20 engine? I just don't see the stroke/stroke-rod ratio being conducive to a high-revving, 200-ish hp N/A application. The main perk to long stroke engines is that the combustion chamber can be more compact, which makes for efficient combustion. Makes sense for fuel-efficiency minded cars like the Impreza, not so much the FT86.

To be completely fair I do believe I am being a bit bias as I just felt the K20A RSX I drove was a much better car and provided a better driver feel.

The RSX Type-S I drove had the engine, 6 speed and LSD from the JDM Type R so with 220HP and 2800HP it was a blast to drive and felt great on the road. With the new Si it felt fat, I know only 100 more than the RSX but with the extra weight and the reduce hp/tq it just didn't feel as good especially if the rev hangs

The k20A was one of the pioneers for Hondas i-vtec and I really felt that the K20z3 should of be more refined and powerful. I mean there are no more honda sports cars anymore since the killed off the RSX and s2k I feel the new Si should of step it up abit more to fill the void

overall its just my opinion

okay, those were exactly the answers i was looking for. thanks!

i haven't lived with either on a daily basis (yet), so i was curious to find out if there was some debilitating flaw in the K20Z3. seems to me like with a reflash that eliminates the rev hang and an exhaust, the Z3 should perform just about as well as the A. anyway, thanks for clearing that up for me.
