PoRco, you alright out there? Couldn't help but think of your posts from yesterday while slipping and sliding to work.
Ha! Yeah I made it just fine the next morning actually. The previous night (the night when I posted) was WAY worse. My car felt like I had ZERO control on it. I guess that instilled enough fear in me to be extra cautious the next day!

Yeap, I was going to cab it to school initially. But I woke up extra early to "try out the road" because I noticed a truck salting the entire of St Laurent road all night. He went up and down like 4-5 times. That gave me some hope.

So I gave it a try at around 7:30am and it was fine. I was able to control the car when the back end slipped occasionally. It was WAY easier than controlling it the previous night. So I drove to school for my exam, parked somewhere safe, and stayed on campus till my second exam in the evening. The entire time I was praying it wouldn't snow for my way back home :P

I gave frisby a call (the one on Industrial) as per your suggestion! And they were great! I JUST got home from my installation. Really friendly and quick. I got the KSI Winter Slalom over the Michelin X-Ice because reviews say the X-Ice seem to slip a lot more and a member on these boards were complaining about it too! (Also the KSI was a bit cheaper)

You guys are awesome btw! I was constantly thinking about the advice you all gave me!

My exams were so brutal this semester that I just crashed for an entire day. Couldn't get on to the forums till today

Btw, my stock tires are currently in my backseat, considering I don't use the backseat at all, should I just keep them in there to provide with the extra weight for the rear? Or should I use sand bags/salt bags instead

i really dont think the car needs extra weight... its fine. its not like a truck that has NOTHING over the rear wheels.
just keep the TC on and your golden. and for the few of us who have the AT, snow mode is great. MT guys just start in 2nd.

good luck in this coming snow storm everyone!

It's raining pretty heavy in the Belleville area right now. If it continues like this as it heads east, it could add up to a fair bit of snow and ice for those in Ottawa by morning.

I decided to be ballsy and I took the car out into the snow storm at around 5:30-6:00 am today.

As soon as I turned on the radio, there were warnings to stay at home! Apparently there were bunch of accidents and a woman actually even died? Wow

Anyway, I went out anyway...albeit fearfully (considering what happened last time when the snow was not even that bad) Fortunately, everything was just dandy.

Car slipped slightly when I accelerated too hard, but other than that it was fine. I took the left turn really slow to be safe.

Went into a parking lot that was covered with snow to try my luck with the car. It was great. Love these tires! Just don't like how the wheels look

I just got my Firestorm MT yesterday at Tony Grahan and had to drive a little bit under the icing rain, but it was all fine (I'm not from Canada, so I'm not used to driving in such conditions). Today I'm not so sure if I should drive, though.

Glad to be part of the club now!

To all the 86 drivers out there in Ottawa regions: watch out for the unplowed road. With a low clearance car like FRS/BRZ, it is very easy to get stuck in the snow. Just got out from the stuck with my car. Had to shovel out tons of snow underneath in order to get traction, and thanks for the good neighbor to lend me the quick-bite thingy to put under the wheel.

Was in Toronto for a few days and supposed to come back tonight, but my boss called me yesterday and told me to get back.

Tons of rain and spray all the way back was flying past cars on the 401 just doing 115, crazy.
Finally got into Ottawa at 10pm, just when the freezing rain started.

Car drives great in this weather other than snow clearance. Very happy with my $100 set of snows (on OEM wheels).

Thanks for the heads up and kinda figured that was going to happen. Have my son's shovel in the car this morning. Dreading trying to get on my side street when I get home. Guaranteed it won't be plowed.

U got a great deal on those tires Andre. My family and i picked a perfect time to got to Upper Canada Village last night. Not only was it not crowded due to the oncoming weather, I got home just when it started to freezing rain. Perfect night.

Yeah, was lucky. Guy was advertising a new set of 17" Michelin Alpins for $200. Got there and found out they came with rims. Sold the rims for $100, hence my $100 set.

The stuff just keeps coming down today, stay safe out there. Working from home today, so I don't have to venture out except to get more gas for the snowblower!
