Every time I go to the dealer to say this is a TSB they say the engineers are on their nth revision (6th as of this past Wednesday) and it doesn't make it any better.

I just crossed over 60k miles and my crickets are louder than ever lol

They must live in a very rural area

Is there a consensus among MY17 drivers that there is or isn't chirping?

I don't know the reason behind the chirp but it is definite amongst drivers in California. I think it has to do with the ethanol content of the gas.

I know of several people who run E85 tunes.... so wouldn't their crickets be like dragon sized?

It's possible that it's not the ethanol itself, but the additives used to mix ethanol and gasoline together. A lot of people with e85 don't seem to complain about the crickets (or they don't care).

I just hit 10,000 miles on my 2016 BRZ and still don't have any crickets. However I have never put a drop of ethanol in my car. Luckily there are 2 ethanol free gas stations within 5 miles of my house that sell 93 octane E0.

Ethanol, not additives, is the key. Not even going to bother going back, but basically the ethanol content of the gas makes it easier to create cavitation in the pump, which causes the chirp. Just to reiterate other points, this does not appear to create any long-term damage to the system. I am in the mid 50s milagewise, and no appearance of degredation.

As far as e85, it has to do with the mixture. Since E85 has a much higher ethanol content, the way it behaves when its going through the pump is different.

This is an awesome explanation, thank you so much. I'm also sitting mid 50s with no signs of degradation

I figured I'd throw this out here in the community in the off chance it helps even one other person with their 'cricket' infestation, like I have ...well had (I may have just jinxed myself). I took to these forums and someone, I can't recall, suggested a fuel stabilizer for the ethanol.

I picked up a bottle of Lucas at Autozone, pulled into the gas station chirping as loud as she could, poured in about 5 ounces, and filled her up with 91 octane (10% ethanol). Less than 5 minutes later - no chirping. I drained the tank to replicate the issue, only filling up with the 91/10%. Crickets came back on the 3 mile drive back home.

I've since repeated this process now 3 times with the same outcome: 5 oz Lucas Fuel Stabilizer when I fill the tank, and no chirping. I'm quite OCD and my eye would twitch when the chirping got excessively loud in the summer heat. Try it out - it's worth a shot. If you opt for the larger bottle ($12) it equates to about $4 per tank for the stabilizer additive (completely worth it IMO). I just hope it fixes the issue for someone else. I'd love to hear feedback from anyone else who tries it out.

Unfortunately this did not cure my crickets... It may have diminished them a bit, but they are still present after 5 oz and a fresh tank of 93 octane (10% ethanol) and 3 days of driving.

Very informative, thank you.

My crickets don't get too loud yet (as of 3200 miles), and I only notice them like half the time. So it's not too bothersome, for now at least. Would that I could find ethanol-free gas to use regularly (for a number of reasons), but there doesn't seem to be any on Long Island.
I suppose I'll just have to go for an E85 tune!

They will go into hibernation as soon as it gets a bit colder.

You also just crossed the "These are my crickets, I own them, nobody will take them away from me for free" line as well I believe.
