I don't smoke weed.... but this guy could totally use a joint.

It's just a car and some parts.

Shit happens sometimes... and it sounds like JDL will do what's needed to handle it.

What's wrong here? I don't see anything wrong with these pics.
No, I'm not trying to troll, I just don't what the problem is.

Where all the collectors merge into a point you'll see separation between them. I've been told this is normal and nothing to be worried about but i've never seen it from all the posts i've seen. Just sharing the photo since i've never seen something like this discussed here.

Let me find the post that has mentioned this before. It may take me a while.

I'll post some pictures tomorrow of how the collectors are welded. With the metal only being 16g steel they are only welded on the outside and then a plate we have cut is welded in the center. Sometimes after welding the runners to the collector it causes a slight separation like seen above. If we ground the metal down anymore it would become too thin and weak and more than likely once ran and heat up a few time the metal will move back into place. Thin wall stainless like this will expand and contract quite a bit with heat cycles.

The collectors are all hand cut, fit up, welded (on the exterior of the pipe) and then hand ported. The separation you are seeing between pieces is just normal tolerance stack up from the manual nature of the assembly process.

There are absolutely no durability or performance issues with the end result. Please let me know if I need to elaborate on any of these points.

edit - Jesse beat me to it...

PROVISO:I am not arguing the issue you have had with JDL.

In my mind the collector shown displays high workmanship/quality. Collectors are welded from the outside so the inside is has to match up from the way the tube is cut.

This is a bad collector from Borla:

Ah yea. That's like 4 pipes that happen to sort of end up in the same location. Also known as cheap labor and zero quality control.

Talking header installed - awesome sound!

So, I got my JDL UEL header, overpipe and catted front pipe installed. Put a bung after the cat in the front pipe and with a 36" extension moved the secondary O2 sensor back there. No CEL! Hooray!

Along with the above I have the stock midpipe/resonator and the quad-tip TRD exhaust...and I have to say the sound is exactly what I wanted. Awesome. Deep rumble, UEL burble (is that a word? lol). Almost weirdly quiet at idle, but QUICKLY wakes up with applied throttle. Sounds good sitting still and revving, but really shows its stuff when driving. With absolutely NO DRONE!

Pulls stronger now from 4 grand on up, but still has a bit of a bog in the midrange, like it had when stock. Will work on that with a tune, hopefully. If I was more savvy I'd try to upload some sound, ain't happening yet. Maybe I can get some of these crazy kids and their phones to help me with it. lol

Was a bit self conscious about the volume on the first day or so, but now I think its just right. Nothing's changed except my perception of what it is and what it should be. And it's not loud at all if you stay out of it, it won't be a cop-magnet. I've now adjusted my driving habits and drive a little more by ear rather than driving by butt-feel. But OMG! this thing is obnoxious in the first 15 seconds or so when starting cold and that valve overlap is going on! Have to close my garage door when first starting every morning because the back of my car faces my neighbor's bedroom. Don't need pissed-off neighbors. lol

Thanks JDL for a quality product. My shop had a few issues with some leaks when first tightening everything up, but nothing a little fiddling with couldn't fix. And I think any header is going to have to be juggled a little to make them fit right. Just the nature of the beast.

Now that I'm comfortable with these and that I'm not getting any CELs, I'll explore a tune. Open Flash Tablet seems to be a good inexpensive (relatively) option for that, to me anyway, although I'm open to suggestons. What I want is something that won't break the bank, is reversible, and would be easy for me to manage. Is there any certain "tune" through OFT that would suit my set-up? This car will not see any track, just a daily driver that I want to look and sound good, and to give some good performance when I want it to, and to be dependable.

Thanks!

I'm running the stage 2 UEL tune from the OFT with these headers and it's great. Relatively cheap and easy to flash and the car really responds well to it. Torque dip is basically nonexistent and the car pulls harder and stronger all the way to the redline. I also don't track mine and just do some spirited daily driving so I'm sure this tune will work well for you too.
