Damn that is a horrendous PC you have there...I'm surprised you do your work on that! Must be unbearable. I tried using a Northwood P4 this summer and was kicking the computer out of rage. That latest one you did looks craaazy lol.
I have lga775 mobo/CPU for sale cheap, unfortunately the CPU is a 65nm C2D E6400 that hates overclocking for some reason (or maybe I'm just a massive noob at overclocking rofl). It did run 2400mhz happily at lower than stock volts, but maybe I was doing something wrong since it crashed when I went up to 2666. Someone gave an offer for the MB but hasn't responded for 2 weeks  So if you want it...PM? That computer was fine, I just switched to a notebook for college. I was pretty happy with the performance even though it was 5 years old. |

I might have a EVGA 8800 gt for sale. My friend was gonna build a computer and buy it from me but he's taking forever and I'm a broke college kid.
I also have a 500w psu I'll have to go take it out of my extra computer and give you the rest of the specs...I wont do it now but I'm too tired to get up. I'll see if I can find anything else.

seriously?! im looking to spend no more than $300 right now but if i could get away with much less id love it. I could afford a really nice PC around $1000 but I'm a cautious buyer, especially since i have a 3 month old daughter with expensive needs.

WoW, your budget is $300...that's a toughy. Can I get a list of parts you need and parts you can reuse from your current pc? I assume you can use your old case, cd drives, and probably a few more parts.
Also at $300 would be be willing to settle with an i3 or i5? I'll see if I can find a rig that can match your budget.

You can put together an old computer for less than 200 I'm pretty sure. I tried to sell my 500W PSU except apparently you can get similar stuff brand new for only 30 bucks on Newegg. You can get 4GB DDR2 for like 30 bucks or less these days, hard drives are cheap as dirt (I got a WD Caviar Blue 500GB off Newegg recertified for like 25 bucks), old video cards can be had for like 30 bucks. I just sold my GT240 512mb for 35 bucks, you can get like a gt430 for 50ish, but a GT240 is probably cheaper. I can definitely let go of my mb/cpu for 90 or less if you want it.

Video Card: 512mb Pci-e EVGA 84000S Power Supply: 600w microATX Generic Mid-tower Case HD Sound Card WD 180gig harddrive (uses old connectors) I don't think i need a i3/i5/i7 processor, although if i can get a one with a deal i cant pass up. A Dual Core processor with lots of ram, is basically all i require. I fear that if i get a modern high performance Motherboard, id need a nice quadcore processor, DDR5 ram, and SATA harddrives, and a bigger power supply. Which would drive up my budget, which i could..but like i said...im looking to conserve as much as i can without compromising too much. Do you guys think that would be enough to do the following? HD video editing Image Editing 3D graphics rendering Music Recording

i think it will get what you want done, but it will be crying the whole way there. For your uses, i woldnt settle for less than a core i5, and plenty of ram or a flash drive running readyboost. the video card isnt spectacular, but it will work

For starters I am an AMD fanboy, but I can't knock the Intel Core processors, they're whooping AMD ass when it comes to 3D rendering. The Core processors do not have an overheating problem like Giccin says. At stock speeds they're perfectly stable. The new Sandybridge processors even overclock like champs with the OE heatsink and fan.
I would recommend reusing the PSU, 600w is WAY more than enough for a new budget rig(even a mid ranged rig). You don't need to upgrade that until you start pushing SLI/CrossFireX GPU's. The case, who gives a shit what it looks like? Sound card, even though new mobo's have pretty nice 7.1 surround sound onboard. The HDD would suffice for now, but you can get a nice 1TB Sata3/6 for ~50$ so they won't break the bank either. I buy all my hardware from Newegg. I would recommend this build. Intel Core i3 2100 --- $125 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115078 Asus P8H61-M motherboard --- $73 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131724 XFX HD6670 1GB --- $70 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150542 GSkill Ripjaws 4GB DDR3-1600 --- $28 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231277 Samsung F3 1TB Sata3 --- $60 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...k=samsung%20f3 = $356 The HDD isn't entirely necessary, but it's a damn nice drive. I have 4 and I haven't had any issues. They compete with the WD Raptor and VilociRaptor 10k-15k RPM drives and they're only 7200 RPM. This is the best 3D rendering rig you can build on a $300 budget. The next step would put you around $550 and would upgrade the CPU and GPU. Also, if you have a nice big screen LCD TV with an HDMI input the GPU has an HDMI output (audio and video). 55" computer monitor makes everything more fun. Quote:
