Why don't you take your 16 yrs of oil changing knowledge and fix the problem. Become everyone's hero. Instead of telling those that like all other aspects of their car to just get rid of it. Not a single person in this thread has said they wished the pump pumped better, only they wanna know how to fix the chirping. How was your comment constructive in any way?

All I am trying to say while annoying it poses no safety or performance issues, don't expect a fix to be around the corner. The TSB and subsequent pump replacement certainly seems to be more just to appease people than actually fixing the issue. I have seen this many times from several manufactures. Why thank you for acknowledging I can change oil; dare I mention I can rebuild engines, transmissions, and diagnose driveability issues; at least that's what Audi and BMW tell me.

I'm on my 3rd high pressure fuel pump now. With 6000 miles on the car. I guess I'll be in for my 4th at 9000 miles. This is all real cute until the warranty runs out -.-

I'm going to be no help whatsoever and say thank God I have unlimited powertrain warranty through my dealer.

But seriously though what does Toyota expect people to do when the warranty runs out. this issue will seriously affect resale value

I was on empty and just a few miles from a VP racing fuels gas station, so for shits and giggles I threw a few gallons of 100 octane, and it silences my crickets. It is definitely the ethanol content that is causing them.

p.s. OMFG the car drives so much better on that fuel than the crappy Cali gas available everywhere else...

Why would the put out a TSB that doesn't fix the actual issue on purpose? Do they like constantly replacing people's pumps for free under warranty? Wouldn't they rather fix it and then not repeatedly waste money on "fake fixes"? Come on.

I'm pretty sure VP-100 contains ethanol

Every car is going to be a balance of what you are willing to put up with and your enthusiasm for it. You can spend 15k on a Fiesta or 400k on a Rolls, both cars are going to have issues, all cars have issues over their life span no matter who makes it. The beauty of it is that you can buy any god damn car you want. Quit bitching if you are not going to anything to change what pisses you off. No one forced you to buy and or keep this vehicle.
This is such bothersome thinking. It's like some people have a case of Stockholm Syndrome or something. Is Subaru/Toyota paying you to apologize for what is clearly a defect in their cars? I like my car, I'm not losing thousands of dollars by trading it for something else. It is not wrong to expect a brand new car to not chirp like a ghetto P.o.S. Weird how my '93 240sx didn't chirp, and weird how my '10 Camaro didn't chirp. Weird how my girlfriend's '11 Honda Fit doesn't chirp. It's like there's some magical way to make fuel pumps that don't chirp, and no one told Toyobaru.

False equivalence. Those fuel pumps that you just referred to are not pumping at the pressure that ours is. Please do some research.

Also, this high pressure DI system is becoming more widespread, as has been covered already in this thread. As a result, our cars aren't the only ones "chirping" anymore. I would go so far as to say this isn't a defect as much as its the new normal.

I don't mind the "false equivalence" claim. I get that. But this...

...is some BS. Make high pressure pumps that either don't chirp, or that can't be heard chirping, or go back to the drawing board. I am unwilling to rollover and accept a noisy fuel pump just because other manufacturers also have shitty, noisy fuel pumps. Just accepting it isn't a fix.

it is not normal. go to your dealer and have them change a new fuel pump for you. the chirp/cricket might go away but no gurantee
