The September 2015 issue of Consumer Reports has an in-depth article about automobile insurance: "The Truth About Car Insurance". They assert that insurance rates are determined more by our personal credit rating more than our driving habits.

BTW, we have Geico also. Our rate did not increase when we renewed this month.

Part of the credit rating system is actually a number that supposedly is about how likely you are to file a car insurance claim. So they are partly correct.

However if you live and garage your car in the bronx your insurance rates will be higher than if you live and garage your car in the middle of nowhere Mass.

Kind of makes sense though. just look at the age of people that buy the car and how they drive it.
It is also owner related, the amount of GT-R owners is way way less than the amount of FR-S owners.

AAA is very, very helpful. In my experience and the experience of people I know, AAA is always there when needed, and they don't hassle when filing a claim.

I just talked with my dad for a while about my insurance last night. I brought it up because of this thread and it turns out it's about $490/6 months, not the ~$800 I previously mentioned. Now some people might think that's bullocks because of how young I am, the car I own in my name, and the sheer amount of coverage I refrain from using, but the papers don't lie.

At the very least, AAA is best for drivers younger than 25.

Got my renewal from GEICO my premium didn't go up. But I'm old so I'm not surprised. Hahaha! Car registration on the other hand is expensive in Honolulu. It's calculated by weight of car. At least for this car it's $50.00 cheaper than my former car.
