As for the admin fee, that only applies when you go to a courthouse to have the violation corrected. The $50 is a processing fee, the "bail" amount is going to be much higher than that; probably around $200-$250 dollars. You can usually pay that with no correction. Doing that and getting another citation is no different that correcting the violations, putting your tint back on and getting another ticket. These infractions do not get more expensive to correct the more violations you receive.
A word to the wise though. They do not do it all of the time, however I would avoid going to a CHP station to have it done. If you get the wrong officer, they will not only go out and visually check to make sure the violation is corrected but there is a chance they will do more. The have a hand held device that checks the amount of light that makes it through the tint and if you didn't take it off they will check for other things. Length of tint strips, tire tread depth, ride height (yes there is a ticket-able offense for that), non-CARB exempt items etc. They can warrant the check as a road-readiness inspection. Go to a local PD, County Sheriff Station, or court house. |

Why not find someone else with the same car as yours, and swap your plates with it?

Nah, they don't LOL. Your VIN isn't even on the fix it ticket. It's just your license and plate. Unless something changed recently.

FYI, the highway patrol doesn't charge anything to get your ticket signed off. According to them (CHP), the local PD and Sheriff charge a fee to sign off a ticket. Not sure if the latter is true.

I had a fix it ticket once. I went to the police station at night, probably around 9ish. I told an officer that I needed him to sign off to prove I put the plate on (which I did). He looked at the ticket, asked me, "did you put the plate on?" I said "yea, my cars right outside in the front, I parked backwards so it's easier to see" he then grabbed a pen and signed it without going outside.
You could possibly get lucky like me, but id still say to ziptie the plates to your car just incase he really does go look. If you're lucky he will just look from a distance. And maybe, just play dumb about the tints if the officer does make the effort all the way to the car. Possible have a dozen donuts on top of the car and be like, "ohh how did these dozen donuts get here? *wink wink* haha I'm not lawyer, so this is not by any means legal advice! |
