What you do is measure the circumference of your cranium in CM, divide by Pi, subtract your cars WHP and multiply by your IQ. Youll see youre getting an accurate 0 MPG.

Well, while I can't say its "every single gallon" I can say that over 1,622.7 gallons I have gotten 32.64MPG driving 52970.1 miles.

I assume you realize that saying a tank last 5 days means nothing. The tank in my FR-S once lasted 14 days, but that's because it was sitting in my garage. My Suburban has a 35 Gallon tank and it can drive almost twice the distance (and therefore time) on one tank of gas than the FR-S does with its 11ish gallon tank. It averages about half the MPG though.

There are two ways to get the number:

Use the button on the dash. Mine has never been reset and shows 33.5MPG.

Do the manual calculation:
  1. Write down your starting mileage
  2. Fill up your tank.
  3. Drive.
  4. Fill up your tank.
  5. Write down the number of gallons purchased.
  6. Write down your current mileage.
  7. Use the formula (CurrentMileage - StartingMileage)/Gallons Used
Both will have some level of variability in them. With the manual method you probably will not fill your tank up exactly the same amount each time. I always stop when the pump auto stops and don't try to top it off. Variables would include the way the car is sitting (try to make sure it is flat), the temperature (fuel like any liquid expands and contracts with heat), where the pump stops, and even the quality of gas. During "normal" driving, I always use the same gas station and when I think about it the same pump, only because I'm a creature of habit.

If you specifically want to get highway mileage, fill up right before getting off the highway, drive on the highway and fill up exactly when getting off. You can also record your start/stop time to get an average speed. My best highway mileage was 35.72MPG over 395.9 miles averaging over 70MPH.

The built in measurement also has variables depending on how it is calculated. For example, it maxes out as a certain MPG (I think its a little over 100 which you can hit going down a steep hill and the engine is basically idling). I don't know if it does a straight fuel flow/mileage calculation or an average of the "current MPG" that it displays.

If you look in my Builder's Journal (see my signature below) I have documented every tank in the original post of the thread.

Who feckin cares? If youre worried about gas driving a sports car, you bought the wrong car. Im sure Prius has some forums thatll interest you. Just copy and past the word Prius in google, that should get the OP going.

Actually, to me driving a sports car it is a critical piece of information, no different than oil levels or other "vital" numbers. Gas mileage can be highly impacted by subtle changes in the engine/performance and is a decent "first alert" tool.

I watch mine like a hawk (no pun intended) for that very reason. Since I do a pile of commuting my driving pattern is very consistent so if I see a strange increase/decrease I want to know why.
Twin4Life just comes here to troll us and go back and brag to his Genesis buddies about how good he is at it and how stupid we all here are anyway so I would not worry about his thoughts on anything. He can be a good source of entertainment though.

Meh...another gracious bow. Though as one car enthusiast to another, despite our differences, I find this forum most entertaining, informative, and energetic.
