Sorry for seeming hostile but you are a member of a car forum dedicated to an ENTRY LEVEL sports car so really if this baffles you then I would take a step back and look at the nature of the car you purchased.
I totally agree that it is best to save up and buy the best quality you can and be happy with what you have in the mean time but you and I both know patience advice is easier given than received.
My advice still stands.

It is an entry level sports car, but that doesn't mean you should put parts on your car with far less engineering and R&D than said entry level sports car. The goal of modding your car should be to make it better, why spend money if it doesn't make the car better or maybe even makes it worse????

And if you lived in a better country than Canada you would have had $10K left over for mods after you bought the car!

Judging by the fact that a suggestion for BC Racing is better than stock in your opinion, feel free and spend your $1k to get BC Racing coilovers.

Just keep in mind several things:
1) coilovers, like shocks, should be rebuilt every 2-3 years (depending on mileage and road conditions), much like how shocks of any kind should be replaced... but...
2) there are two types of coilover makers: the ones that sell you a generic replacement shock, and those that actually take your existing shock body to revalve/rebuild.
3) coilovers costs more to maintain than spring/shock combo. If $1k is your budget limit, I would highly suggest you to look elsewhere as they are not at all a "budget" modification.

But hey, go cheap all you want.

No your advice is fine and I totally support it. But the way that I look at it, is that car parts are like fast food. Fast food is not good for you and it kills the environment, plus afterwards you feel like s**t. But a junior chicken for $2 is so god damn convenient and cheap that once in a while you give in, and that is why fast food companies make an absolute fortune and the local quality restaurants struggle to survive! Its the western mindset!

A better place?????
Actually if bought in another place the money "left over" would be exactly the same.
Can't compare prices from country to country as there are many economic factors in play.
Just because something cost $1 in the U.S. does not mean it cost a $1 everywhere else but because we pay more does not mean it cost more too us.
Shit, that doesn't even make sense to me now!
Sort of like if I make $2 an hour and pay $1 for something I spent 50% of my income but that would be exactly the same as if I make $4 and spent $2. To the guys with the $2 income the $4 seems expensive.
And this is why I am not an economics professor!

I laugh every time I see somebody recommend BC coils and say they're "good quality".

I can't go onto a single forum without somebody's BC coils having issues and going to shit within a few months of ownership.

ST coilovers are the best bang for dollar/performance is what the reviews say. I'd look into those.

I was reading this whole thread wondering why those were never brought up. Figured I missed a thread where those were deemed utter crap. Good to know I'm not the only one, if that's the case.

I don't think there are "good" coilovers for 1K. They do have there place, and that is to get low for cheap. I'm speaking from first hand experience. I bought BC's about 6 months ago and have driven for about 6000 miles. They do not out perform the stock suspension in any way. The BC's are just too harsh (8K rates) for Houston roads and the dampers are just sub par on quality. Even on full soft on all 4 corners, I can't get comfortable with them. And comfort is key for me whether daily driving or out on the autocross. By comfort I mean the car doesn't feel as planted as on the stock suspension. On slight-medium bends and with mild speed (30-45mph) the car loses grip on minor road irregularities. I think it's a combination of 8K rate making the car hop over bumps and the inferior damper design not allowing the tire to contact the ground over the bump fast enough. Honestly, I wish I haven't bought them. Will be saving up for a proper coilovers.

What makes you so sure? Just because they fit your price range?

People bitching on forums will always outdo people talking positively, it is the nature of the internet. My personal experience with having a BC set on the miata for 20,000+ miles of mixed usage would disagree with your claim based on what I assume is experience based on reading forum posts?

Why do you need "coilovers"... why not quality dampers with proper matched springs? If it isn't primarily a track car, you really don't need coilover - not to mention with non-adjustable dampers you don't have to worry about the height adjustment ever shifting on you no matter what you do with the car. I'd look into a good non-adjustable damper setup (Bilstein) instead for a mainly DD vehicle... much more alignment bullet proof.

I've ridden in numerous cars with BCs as well.

Not to mention, my wife's Focus ST has them and after a few months, she's ready to have them taken off. So am I.

I told her not to, but she insisted on BCs, and now she knows what I was talking about.
