Hahaha. If everything fits up properly, we can look into mass production (with the proper forum vendor status, of course).

This project feels like the Hindenburg, everything is going along nicely... but at any moment, it could become a smoldering pile of shame and zipties.

Seriously though, I was thinking about running those speakers, but I don't want to use the typical HDF adapter. If you want to sell the 7" Daytons and the adapters I'll buy them from you.

Quick update. The tweeter pods don't fit. Not enough room with the windshield's rake angle.

Next, we need to fit tweeters elsewhere. The A-pillars are the obvious choice. Flat on the dash is OK... but not great for such directional speakers.

Headrest speakers can be done (see the Infiniti G37 Convertible):

What I'm thinking, though:

Forgot to upload the photos from last month's progress.

Fiberglass rear quarterpanel subwoofers. Others have attempted it, but the approach is different.

Use the OEM panel with a fiberglass overlay. This keeps the mounting and the arm rest... but gives us a spot for infinite baffle subs.

After this, I added a few more layers to the flat zones. 10 layers in the load path, and 3 layers in the cosmetic parts.

The plan is to use 10" low-profile subwoofers that are from the C7 Corvette doors. This is about as lightweight and efficient as it gets for a 10".

Fun fact for anyone doing this, if you are using ABS plastic, you can use acetone (generic cheap nail polish remover) in place of glue, and it will bond the halves together stronger than any glue can.

Latest updates:

Dayton 7" woofers have been mounted in the doors (using the 3d printed adapters). One of the holes was off by 1/4", but a little drilling fixed that.

Dayton 2" mids have been mounted in the dash. Some surgery was required, but it fit without cutting into the air duct. I've epoxied them into the dash (permanently), and the initial impression is amazing and lifelike (even without any crossover).

Vifa 1" tweeters have been flush-mounted to the plastic grille. I've designed some waveguides (acoustic lens is the term used by Bang & Olufsen) that slip on the tweeters. Need to print and install these. Listening impressions to follow.

What software are you using for your CAD files? I primarily use Solidworks and sometimes Spaceclaim depending on what I'm doing.

Sorry for the delayed response. I use Solidworks primarily. Originally, I was trained on 2-D AutoCAD, then Pro/E (now PTC Creo 3.0). Every now and then, I'll use Google Sketchup for subwoofer boxes and other simple structures. Each has its own quirks and benefits. Inventor is good too.

I haven't gotten to use Spaceclaim yet, but if the reverse engineering features work as well as it seems... that's huge. Also, if it integrates with the other ANSYS simulation packages, many people will want it.

In recent news, I've uploaded "Version 2" of the acoustic lenses onto Thingiverse. It is shorter (to fit under the windshield) and more reinforced in the thin spots (by 1mm). Initial test-fit of V2 is good. More pics to follow.

Bang & Olufsen's design:

I tried downloading your file and converting from STL to STEP, PRT and even a Spaceclaim document, but had no success...

So I reinvented your wheel in Solidworks to print off a set for my own car so I can install my 6.5" Focal components:

And this is what I did for the rear:

It's probably too late, but I've got it on Google Drive as a Solidworks SLDPRT file.

or

Right: LINK

Otherwise, nice design!! Very similar to stock, and should avoid my hole misalignment issue.

That's awesome of you to hose the sldprt file! A few days ago it would have been great, but for now I've got my adapter printing. This is the final design that is printing out in 2 pieces that you gave me inspiration on:

So how did they sound? If they worked, what are the chances of a generic design for other tweeters?
