Fair play, you see performance, I see boy racer, toe-may-toe toe-mah-to, enjoy your speculation.

Although I think at least some people might care around here. Why, you say? Because an OEM test mule running bigass brakes, extra cooling (incl. oil cooler, as seen in the pictures) and loads of downforce (for a road car) is a sure sign Toyota is cooking up a much anticipated hot version of our beloved twin.

I want to see Toyota focus on things that would be difficult or expensive for the aftermarket to handle.

Similar to Toyota's focus on CG height and weight balance for the original GT86, since engine placement and configuration, general suspension geometry, and steering configuration are all essentially set in stone from the factory for the typical end purchaser.

Small stuff like suspension tuning, uprated brakes, aero, etc. can be handled easily by the aftermarket. Now that Toyota has nailed the chassis design, the next big step IMO is factory forced-induction. Having a factory FI engine with things like lower-compression pistons, and supporting pieces like an oil cooler and intercooler would be huge and present good value for enthusiasts/buyers.

I just want to say thanks for sharing

Sadly, that happens a lot on this forum. We just try to spread 86/FR-S news with everyone, but some people always have some rude, negative, or smart @ss comment. No one is forcing anyone to click on this thread. If someone isn't interested they can simply just move on.

@DarkSunrise Agreed, that'd be the best scenario.

But I also like the idea of a factory-tuned N/A model, à la BRZ tS. I know all those upgrades and more are available in the after market world but it's so easy to get it wrong, go too far, and ruin the whole package in the process. An OEM set-up will be coherent and durable.

the license plate is almost identical except for the last digit too:

OMG a car is on the ring, it must be the next retarded thing we all speculate about on the forums! YAY!

My guess it's the supercharged and turbo charged AWD BRZ with flux capacitor for time travel... My speculation is just as good as yours.

That was my car on the track! I was trying to get to the mall and wasn't paying attention and hit 88 mph.

Next thing I knew I was in Ghandi's jail cell sharing a potato bug.

When I got back I decided to take a lap.

Manufacturer license plates might give a hint too. Take your pick.
that could also be someone whos part of an Auto Cross League or some other entry league and records and goes over his own data. just looks like someones track build to be honest

No it's not, smartass. My speculation is based on what the pictures show: a Toyota-owned test mule running higher-spec components during a manufacturer test session. How do you not understand that? At this point your... reasoning is beyond me.

Just for lolz, a older pic of a Toyota mule carrying the exact same licence plate as the one shown on our flux-capacitor powered twin. Unless it's also a boy racer bro?

Mysterious 2015 Toyota GT 86 prototype spied at the 'Ring testing lightweight body parts

Features additional hood intakes

Our spies caught on camera a Toyota GT 86 prototype featuring several lightweight body parts while testing in Germany at the Nürburgring.

It seems the mid-cycle refresh Toyota is planning for the GT 86 is more complex than originally believed as a prototype was seen testing on the 'Ring featuring what appears to be a carbon fiber hood with dual air intakes to increase engine cooling. The same lightweight material was also used for the roof and trunk where we also notice a large fixed wing.

For the moment it's not known whether these added parts will be available through a special edition GT 86 or will be offered as an optional package. GT 86 chief engineer Tetsuya Tada recently said the facelifted GT 86 could make use of a larger boxer engine along with improved exhaust and intake systems developed in collaboration with Gazoo Racing. Also expect to find a modified final drive ratio for more intense accelerations.

Following the 2015 GT 86's introduction, Toyota will start work on the second generation model which might end up being co-developed with BMW rather than Subaru. The model could be offered with some form of hybridization and will be out before the end of the decade.

This thread, while entertaining, is just that; Entertaining.

Many vehicles get tested and never see the light of day.

It is possible that this is a Toyota test car, but it is also possible that this is just a Toyota "For funsies" test car.
