hey, when our car looks this good, who needs to run 10's?

...or 11's, or 12's, or 13's or even 14's

or occasionally 15's

I've yet to go in the FRS though; the one time I planned on going with some friends they were closed because of 'the weather'. Drag racers are a bunch of pansies when it comes to weather... "Oh a cloud in the sky that's not bright white! Close the track, Close the track!!! But then again High horsepower, terrible handling machines that are mostly automatics is a recipe for disaster. Much different than roadcourses... "Oh it's raining...Y'all be safe and go have fun!"
Your post starts out intelligent and then toppled downhill quickly. One of the more unintelligible things I have heard....do you have any idea why those high horsepower cars cannot run in the rain? Do you know how 200+MPH on drag slicks and a wet track would go? It would not end well. Grip levels are near zero.

As for being a bunch of pansies....do you ever go ice skating in the summer when its 90 degrees out? You can't, the equipment and surface don't agree.

A true enthusiast will understand and respect all kinds of racing.

I have no idea why people enjoy drifting, but the guys who do it have bucketloads of talent I will never have, hats off to them.

Grow up.

I think a lot of people would drop the "wrong car for drag racing" mentality if they understood that you're not competing against the car next to you but rather against yourself. There are three great reasons to head to the drag strip.

1. Improve your skills for launching and shifting (especially if you have a manual)

2. Verify performance impact of power mods (factor climate variables)

3. Have fun..... driving the car even in a straight line can be a blast once you get past the notion of "beating" cars with better hp/#

This is the first new car I've ever owned, and I've spent way too much to beat on it. I baby my FR-S all the time. I want it to last a long time.
I don't think I'll ever drag race it... maybe.

I didn't buy a car that goes really fast in a straight line, I bought one that slides around corners like a champ and leaves the biggest smile on my face.

So much fun. Sportbike to Superbike power to weight ratios with ridiculous grip. Scary as fuck when you lose it though...

I talked to a couple of guys running snowmobiles at Bandimere in Denver over the summer. They were running in the 9's, and said when they run on ice with the studs in the rear belt they could really turn up the power...yikes!

The main thing makes me not interested in drag is I don't want to do clutch dumps on my car. Also I have never had a fast car and so I guess I don't have that straight line power bug. I do have the corner bug though and starting tracking my car recently.

Different strokes

Don't be so sure.. It's takes more than just power to get a good ET.
This car lacks mechanical grip as it is.. You'll need more than just a worked engine to get down the 1320

I live my life 1/4 mile at a time...for those 15 seconds or less I am free.

I'm very familiar with that. My Mustang was set up for a drag strip, with Lakewood suspension, subframe connectors, transfer bars, etc..

It's already been proven that the twins can run quick ETs with a boosted engine. I'm just saying that if you want to go fast on a drag strip, an engine swap would be my first step.
