it's called 'playing with other people's money'. some are willing to, others aren't. you can always pull timing to make the knock go away, but what are the egt's? there are so, so many reasons why this isn't a good idea lol.

i've run my own car up to ~18.5psi (2.2 bar absolute) on 93 without knock. no way in hell i'd do that to a customer car without an egt probe, or even to my own for any extended period of time. felt good though! most irresponsible things do lol.

This.

I avoid saying it is the FA20Club kit, because what I originally received was garbage. I had to spend many hours fixing it.. and it still isn't what I would like it to be. I know some have had acceptable experiences with FA20Club, but mine was far far from it - but that's for another thread (which I have a couple of on the subject).

Nice to see some people catching on. Yea 400 on 93 is cool to brag about on the dyno, but I bet it makes a mess on the street in no time. I didnt want to be called a "hater" but I have spent LOTS of timing tuning both DI cars in general and the FA, you cannot SAFELY run that kind of boost on 93. Especially at the 12.5AFR, bad bad bad idea.. That lean AFR plus the timing you have to pull to run that boost level will cause a very hot set of cylinders lol. Can you do a few glory pulls on the dyno? Sure can... but I wouldn't let a customer leave like that ever.

As for the skepticism on the timing/EGT/boost.. understandable. I know when I am driving at 20psi it is pushing the limits.
Andy, the tuner at R/T Tuning, has been tuning cars - specifically Subarus - for a very long time and I trust his work.

It's not 12.5AFR. It is in the 11s for AFR at high boost.

When I previously mentioned 12.5:1 I was referring to the stock compression ratio.

Did he actually measure egt's and confirm this was safe? Or was it like a 'no brah, it'll be fine, I got this' type of thing? I'm guessing the latter. There's no way in hell that's resulting in safe egt's. I'd love to see a timing log on that thing.

We all know it "can" be done but it shouldn't be done. I saw you mentioned that you're building a block for the summer which is great, I can't wait to see the results. However, to ensure you make it to the summer, I'd dial it back quite a bit. Proof of concept is one thing, longevity is another.

It's your ride though so whatever floats your boat.

I'd rather drive it there than tow it there.

That's why he has a 7 psi map.... . One is for driving, two is for fun (gotta love FMJ paraphrases)

I've tuned a few subarus myself... As well as a few FI brz/frs twins and I can comfortably tell you that it's a very bad idea lol

It's yours though, so enjoy it!

Its funny how when you push a motor everyone is full of criticism yet when full blown or dynosty pushes a stock motor the thread is full of fanboys.

If the afr is safe and its not detonating run it.. see what it can do. Clearly you know you are pushing the limits as we know them.
Plenty of people had opinions on what an ej could handle when they came out.
