Awesome write up! I did a driver's education track day through PCA (Porsche Club of America) last spring. Only cost $75 and it was more than worth it! I think I'll go home and check out the upcoming local events tonight.

What brake pads and fluid were you running?

That seems a bit extreme to me, but I don't really know. Is that what something like this actually costs??
Check out your local chapter of PCA or BMWCCA. They may or may not let you join the club if you don't own the nameplate but they'll usually let some number of non-members run with them at autocross and track events, complete with instruction. These clubs have some seriously good drivers so you can learn a lot.

I had 987 Motorsports hook me up with Goodridge SS lines and Hawk HPS pads. No issues for my skill level and they do nicely in the mountains behind my house.

For fluid I'm using Torque RT700.
