New 2013 map update for US BRZ head unit

After updating the SD card with the non-map updates and putting it back in the headunit do you get some kind of updating screen or notification that it has updated? Mine doesn't seem any different and I did not notice anything strange. Tried restarting it several times and ejecting/reinserting the SD but no change.

In the hidden service menu there is a button to do an update, but I was scared to push it and kill my headunit. I can't seem to find anything on the web about it.

I didn't see any indication of an update. I expect the head unit just reads the files off the card and doesn't care if they've been updated, as long as they're good.

The only odd thing was that the map screen had the audio controls to the left, which isn't the way I left it and I can't remember if I'd ever seen it like that. One of the buttons makes the map fill the screen again. Anyway, this could have indicated some kind of return to default settings after the update.

There was no firmware update for the 2013 at the time of the OP. I no longer have a 2013.

The good news is, I've had a 2015 for awhile now, and Subaru USA did the same reimbursement for current maps that didn't come with the car. They actually shipped me a new SD card this time as opposed to a download and upgrade via PC, but still sent me a check.

After debating on buying a new head unit or purchasing the updates over the last several years each time (only 3 or 4) the GPS took us down some road that was no longer a road, I called Subaru of America directly. I explained I was trying to update my maps and they offered to reimburse my purchase of a new SD card (the latest update only said it couldn't fit on my OE 4Gb card) without me even asking! Totally made my day! I like using the GPS in the head unit for a variety of reasons over my phone. It's 20/21 maps.
