New 2013 map update for US BRZ head unit

1 Attachment(s)
Update: It appears that this is a free update for anyone who already has the 2013 Q1 maps. However if you don't, you should be able to get them for free (SOA reimbursed me for mine because I griped about a 2013 car coming with 2011 maps. I posted a how-to thread for that deal).

Update 2: 2015 BRZ owners should also be able to do a reimbursable map update if they pre-authorize it with SOA over the phone, since the car again came with outdated maps.

However, the new map colors may be available for free to anyone. I would download the Navteq/Subaru program to check on that yourself. They are actually worth it, especially with the improved night maps.
They also included Western Europe (which I didn't pay for), so if you're planning a drive across the Atlantic it's your lucky day. There were some other updates to voice, but one of the best updates was to the day and night map colors. You now have 10 options to choose from.

Other than that, there was no firmware update. It was mainly just map features. You can download the client here: https://subaru-na.naviextras.com/shop/portal

Dear Valued Customer,
We are pleased to announce that a new map update download is now available for your Subaru. The previous download required a software update. You should download to your SD card in order to receive the update to your navigation system. Please open the Subaru Tool Box, insert your SD card, and download the latest version to your SD card.

If you require any assistance, please contact us by replying to this email or calling us at 877-628-8374.
Kind regards,

I didn't receive anything either. Did you have to sign up somewhere for updates? Is there a link to check for updates? More info please.

YOu have to create an account at the Subaru Navigation website and download their client. Then you just pop your SD card into your laptop and it downloads and updates everything in about 30 minutes or less.

I updated the OP with information, but this is at least some great freebies for everyone. At least I hope it's free for everyone else.

I wonder if there's any update in any ways that would impact Bluetooth, namely the connection issues people with Galaxy phones have been having.

e: ahh, I missed this part:

Still, maybe there's something behind the scenes.

Sir Doomsday - Can we assume you spent the 150.00 for the map upgrade?

sparks 12-13-2013 09:12 AM

I checked my SD card this morning and there is a update called "fix for navigation content" Nothing about a free map update. Good time for a backup.

I wonder if complaining to this support page will allow us to bring up the 4,000,000+ issues that this P.O.S. headunit has?

No, I griped to SOA about getting a 2013 car with 2011 maps and they reimbursed me for it after I paid.

Glad to hear you at least get updates if you don't have the new maps.

No map update for me. Still stuck on Q1 2011. There were a few files updated though after plugging it in.

If you want map updates for free call SOA and ask for them. Point out that it's stupid your 2013 car came with 2 year old maps when new ones are available. They'll reimburse you.

Don't e-mail, they'll ignore it.

I actually did that. The rep I talked with recommended on waiting to buy until the 2014 maps come out in January, and then they'll reimburse me. Probably good advice for anyone at this point.

Got the non-map updates on the card. I'll have to see what that includes this weekend.

Anyone tried making a backup, and then writing it to a different SD card? or is the unit "mated" to that card?
