who is your sanctioning body? Or is this self ran? Is it a time attack-time trial format or is it wheel to wheel racing? What is the minimum weight off track with driver?

86 cup is a brilliant idea....but there are SO many vendors making so many different products it will be hard to pin down a specific set of approved parts to define a 86cup class that is similar to Spec E30 or Spec Miata currently the two largest "inexpensive" race series.....both are sponsored by NASA and SCCA nationally....

My thoughts are keep it STOCK STOCK STOCK....why, stock is reliable and reliable is CHEAP....simple wheel tire combo is 225 with an easily available tire (toyo offers great deals) brake pad-fluid-line upgrades only...simple shock-spring set with ajdustable sway bars so drivers can tune the car to their liking....engine totally stock with just a cat bypass and race style exhaust that can make sound even at Laguna style 92db tracks.... I would say NO aero allowed, to even things out and keep it cost effective... In wheel to wheel spec series you want it about the drivers, not who has the largest checkbook....

The biggest challenge will be defining the rule set.....since many people are building their own "track" cars with a million different parts combos so many pre built cars are gonna be pissed that theirs doesn't fit.... Another great idea to minimize costs is a reasonable dyno limit.....it seems most cars dyno at most 170whp near stock....use this or whatever is reasonable to keep full blueprint built to the limit engines from having an advantage....

We are the sanctioning body. This is purely community driven. It's a time-attack series, with most events being run as a "fast time of the day sessions 2-3 or 2-4" format. If we get enough participants, we'll be able to get our own time-attack session, where only that session counts, and we only have our group on track.

Points are assigned on a "no budget restriction" basis. They're not perfect, but the assumption is made that a top-of-the-line off-the-shelf, readily available part will be used. There's no way to account for one-offs, and it's really meant for the weekend warrior, not guys looking for glory.

Stock is NOT reliable. Not with this car. However, if you want to run in a minimal cost, minimal mod class, well, that's why we got the STOCK class.

Dynos are variable. Unless we have one shop EVERYONE has to go to, it's not going to happen.

You're looking at this with too much of a SCCA/NASA perspective. We don't want identical cars. The whole point of the point system is to have a lot of different cars that are roughly comparable to each other on track.

I like the rules. Very comprehensive, but they will be a hell of a bitch to enforce. That is why I like the old set of rules, particularly for stock class.

With the old rules just check tires, make sure there is no headers, aero, weight reduction, or dampers. Boom, stock class. Simple and takes less than 2 minutes to confirm. As with the Over class... you have FI? Boom, Over class. With your new set of rules, you're going to be checking each component, adding up the points. Some of the allowed mods are difficult to confirm, such as fuel and tune.

Don't get me wrong, the rules look good, but is going to take a lot of work to enforce. My offer still stands to help out when I'm at the events.

Also, if you want to set up rules this way it would help to make the rules somewhat congruent with Redline or Global Time Attack rules, so if the 86 Cup driver wants to venture into other competitions they are still 100% compatible and competitive within their respective classes.

PS. I'd also like to see a 1 to 1.5 pts for stock class under these rules instead of .5 pts allowed.

I think we should try this out via trial runs at the next meet.

Have a few printed checklists and see how much time is needed to spec a car within a class.
@CSG Mike @ImperiousRex what do you guys think? Irvine meet?

That would be fun. Host an Irvine meet and I'll be there. Maybe Mike will actually let me drive the CSG BRZ for once. LMAO!

Sounds good to me! Just let me know which day you want to go (preferably at least a day beforehand).

Love the idea...wish auto X rules were more like this.

1000miles is too far or I would definitely sign up.
