A huge factor in this scenario is the amount of money pocketed after taxes and stuff.
For example, if it was a million dollar lottery, but the gub'ment took 60%, you're only pocketing $400,000. I could blow that in a day, no problem. It would be spent before anyone would even have time to find out. But if you won some crazy ass Powerball, and after the gub'ment raped you in the butt, mouth, and eye, you might still be walking away with like $150,000,000. In that case, I would be trying to lay low as hard as I could.

The main reason for not shouting it to the whole world is to avoid scammers and other such low lifes. Get the money secured, earning you interest/dividend/equity and set aside 10% just for fun. Debts paid off first is a must!
I have told my fiance she will receive a message from me in a random foreign country then, with some money wired into her account, she would have to chase me around the world. The last location will have a clue as to the next location, how to get there and a challenge to complete (need proof!). After about 3-4 weeks I will let her catch up

i would go straight to my accountant and say "hide this moeny make this money so hard to trace that no one could follow it to me."
then i'd only tell my missus "say if you can find it you can use it" prob not even my family i'd just put a random amount of money into their accounts and tell many months later

Hmmmm...
I would keep my mouth shut, but the only reason I wouldn't start making angel investments or something is because I'm too young and people would wonder where the money is coming from. Would call up some friends in finance and figure out some funds to throw most of the money into, pretending like it's a commingled pool of money from my parents and their friends. After I'm like 25 I can start doing angel investing (always thought this was really neat) and pretend like I made a fortune as a trader or something. Of course this is only if it's like well into the 8 digits. Now that said, there's no way I can resist getting some garage in the middle of nowhere and stuffing it with all the cars I've ever wanted :3 I'd still drive my MR2 around though, but I'd have the interior redone in alcantara or similar, and have all the custom bits I've ever thought of. Only problem is if I'm seen driving dat sexy McLaren or Lotus around they'd think I'm one of those Chinese real estate mogul kids whose daddy buys them a new supercar every month. |
