Had a closer look - you can see where the valet button is supposed to go but there is nothing there, it's just blank but the indentation is clearly visible.

Also, there are 2 slits where the straps go, but obviously no straps.

What I don't understand, what happens when you press these buttons from inside?

The buttons pop out when you pull the straps, and allow the seat to fall forward. Buttons down = locked, buttons up = unlocked. They are recessed, too, so there's no way to pull them up from the inside, but maybe if you glued or drilled a little hook or something to them that would allow you to pull them, it would work. Another thing you can do, if you are careful and take your time putting the seat up, is hold the straps so that they are wedged between the edges of the seat and the interior trim, which lets you pull them from the front or back.

Thanks for the explanation - ours are different. Push the buttons and the seat gets released so you can fold it.

You can use back-up cameras in the 10 Series (well, the 2014 HU which all 10 Series should have). Beatsonic has a DIY guide on their backup camera page. Requires one extra wire splice over the BRZ.

I wouldn't recommend this on the American model at least. Like other posters have been saying, if the button is pushed you won't be able to get into the trunk. Additionally, I found out that if you disconnect that switch (or the circuit it is completing breaks for any other reason), then it reverts to key mode.

Edit: I suppose you could hardwire that circuit shut and remove the switch. Still the potential for getting locked out of my trunk like that scares me.

Easy solution - drill a hole on the other side. Drill bit included with camera actually.
It's still a very small and neat camera, you don't have to mount it in the barrel hole.

I accidentally hit this 'valet' button and was freaking out that I couldn't get into my trunk.

I'm going to order this cam and use the same install location... and see if I can permanently enable the switch, or re-route it inside of the cabin (hidden).

Just a few questions:

Has anyone wired this cam up to a US BRZ yet?

How is the camera secured\sealed into the key barrel hole?

Is it possible to install this without the beatsonic BCUS2 adapter? $72 seems steep.

You can pull pins from a PC front panel header and solder them to a RCA female plug and use those to add it to the 16-pin harness. They aren't the right pins but they'll fit. Otherwise, svxdc at ae64.com offers a much less expensive adapter to add a back-up camera to a BRZ, using the correct pins.

For the switch, I believe it's a simple closed to enable trunk, open to disable truck. I'm basing this off of my experience, where I've found that with the switch removed entirely, the trunk is disabled. You could probably use a vampire tap on each of the two wires to the switch, and use that to bypass the switch, or disconnect the switch and use a short piece of wire inserted into both contacts in the connector as a jumper.

I wonder if anything can be bought at radio shack to connect to the stock harness. I'm hesitant to buy the harness because I plan to replace my HU once a decent android unit becomes available.

I wonder if these would work: http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...tent=CT2032231

I removed the switch from the panel and zip-tied it up high behind the panel so it can never be accidentally pressed.

You could disable it by cutting/soldering/crimping wires and all that but I don't like cutting any factory wiring.

I'm sure there are ways to rig it without cutting but it was easiest to tuck away the switch. I also prefer solder over clips or crimping.

camera leads to the h/u can be run betw the rear seat backs then tucked up under and along the console . No cabin panels need to be removed
