Our other car is a Honda fit which is pretty much bullet proof but if you go on forums it would look like people have all kinds of problems with it.
I totally understand that it has problems. But when dealers won't do anything to help and Toyota reps that tell me they will do something, but won't, it really pisses me off.

I don't think it is because they just "don't care" about fuel pump issues. From what I read elsewhere is that this is an inherent issue based on the design on the engine & location. I am sure they have done their research and tried other alternatives, there just might not be a viable solution or possible solution at this point.

Still a PITA though none the less.

Tough situation. Definately sounds like you got a lesser quality built car. But is it possible that you expected too much from this car prior to buying it? Rattles are normal for a light weight cheap car. Rattling in the transmission is also normal ... unless there is something really wrong with it. I've had Porsches' with louder transmissions. Detonation .... pretty tough for the dealer to fix if they can't duplicate. Axle? 1st time I've heard of anything wrong with the axle. Fuel pump .... get it replaced. If the crickets remain ... big deal. As long as the car runs fine with them. Bottom line: yes .... your car may have more problems than others. Keep all your documentation and continue to use the dealership for the major issues. Once all the issues are essentially corrected ..... sell your car and move on.

I'm not having any major problems. The one issue I've had so far (steering wheel peeling) the dealer is replacing under warranty without any hassle.

You bought an early production low volume car, what exactly did you expect?

That Toyota would take care of issues from a early production low volume car.

Wait it out, people are getting new transmissions over this. I occasionally grind but it's because I have two left feet and they fight over when to release the clutch. IF you're grinding in 3 gears at 6000 miles, they're gonna owe you a transmission soon. Just ask for a regional rep to visit your dealership. Or go to a dealer that doesn't suck as hard as it sounds like yours does.

Sorry you aren't having fun with the car. You should get some autocross in or something, or at least a few twisty back roads. I love mine, but the seats were designed with someone who doesn't have shoulders in mind. Also the transmission is kinda funky, but I'm thinking of changing trans oil - everyone says it helps. My stereo is sort of screwed up as well, sometimes doesn't play MP3s from USB that well.

You know now that I think of it my car is sort of a pain in the ass. HOWEVER, my last car was a bare-bones toyota pickup so it still feels luxurious to me. it's all about expectations I guess

Holy shit you had an axle fail? Where's the thread on this? Details?

Crickets are a non-issue, I'm surprised you have detonation since an April car certainly has the 'fixed' calibration, and rattles are part of owning a subaru.

The transmission thing is starting to get attention, it should be obvious from a test drive with a tech that there's something wrong. Best of luck with whatever you chose to do, if it really is that much of a headache just get rid of it, peace of mind is better than going with the crowd.

How about you read all the posts saying I've taken it to dealers and had a rep come out?

If everything turns out the way I want, I'm just gonna get a used Tacoma and get rid of this headache. Maybe I'll come back to it once they fix shit and hopefully gets a power boost.

If your going to get a Taco then buy a X-Runner best of both worlds.

Let's see the X-Runner is a 4 liter V-6, RWD, and can be boosted with a TRD Supercharger.

I've owned 3 of them and might get another one soon.

My photoshop in yellow with Volk wheels.

In general, I hate dealerships too...especially on the service side. Your statement right here shows that your issues are really with the lack of respect and expedient service you have experienced at your dealership.

Sit down, write out bullet points of all that has gone wrong with the car and the corresponding lack of resolution you have had with the dealership. Next, call the corporate Scion number and calmly and succinctly run through the bullet list with them. Tell them that this experience has made you look at Scion and Toyota in a very negative light. Then allow them to make it good.

Good luck to you!
