I think I somewhat experience the issue today and I am wondering if its the same as you guys, I couldn't hear any sound since road noise was loud, but as I shift from 4 to 5th at around 4-5k rpm. Going into 5th felt like a grind, but was not a grind where it would force you out of gear, it was more like the gears hitting each other trying to mesh, but can still go into gear.

I have the same issue... sort of, reason is because I think it's my fault for either not pushing clutch in completely or letting go of clutch too early when shifting into 5th.

Sometimes I get into the car, and tell myself not to grind the gears today, and it still happens time to time lol

i would like to know this as well.
we need to create a poll who changed transmission under warranty and see whether people still have same issue.

I have the grinding going from 6th to 5th above about 50 mph, with the trans hot or cold. Below that the down shift is fine. Waiting to see what the dealer is going to do about i. THe dealer is waiting to hear from a main Toyota office in Portland.

I was able to reproduce the problem with a tech in the car, who was not able to reproduce the problem even my description of how to reproduce it.

Well I'm not sure if this is good news or not. I came here looking for answers and see it's not just me. My FR-S has started doing the grind within the last 400-500 miles and as of right now it has 10,006 miles on it. It grinds going into 3-4th above 4K RPM's and going into 6th as well. Looks like I will be visiting the dealer about this.
I will say other than this the car has been great. Minus the characteristic crickets. I just chalked that up to coming with the territory like Ford F-150/ Excursions burning the garage down or GM ignition issues.

Im thinking this is a QA/QC issue

Im upto 20k miles and my car/transmission gets a beating regularly.

Its well serviced and looked after but is driven hard and touch wood, my transmission (and the whole car) is perfect.

86 gearshift

Does anyone experience abit of difficulty shifting gears on the 86? Particularly moving between 1st and 2nd. When i stop at the lights and try slotting into 1st before the lights go green, i have to sorta force the gear in sometimes. Not sure if maybe its cause its cold outside and the weather affects it?

I see you didnt really read the whole thread before posting... notchiness is common on Aisan transmissions. The things you can do to help it are bushings/heavier knob/switch to better fluids. Moving back to neutral before angaging a gear can also help.

How often does that happen to people here? I'm at 15k miles and start to notice hear grinding from 4-5 or downshift 4-3. It doesn't happen all the time, but more frequently, that I've have noticed it. I've questioned myself with not pushing clutch all the way, but that's not the case. Anybody else got their transmission looked at or replaced by the dealer? (Subaru)

Just had the 5th gear grind happen to me on my drive from Massachusetts back to DC. Occurred only 3 times, at random speeds (damn traffic in NJ and CT), and when I would try to recreate the situation it wouldn't grind.

I own a BRZ, but have the TRD Quick Shifter installed. For now I can't recreate the situation (transmission is working fine today), but would Subaru deny my claim since I have the Quick Shifter installed? It is a Scion-sanctioned part though...(fortunately I have all the original components, including the original rubber shift boot).
